Bistro 1600 is an elegant restaurant with beautiful wood accents, including a great dark wood bar that looks like it's been their for ages, with plenty of stories to tell. It offers an all-you-can-eat pasta special and plenty of homemade hearty soups for those cold Rochester nights. Bistro 1600 also pairs wines with its entrees, like the Hacienda Cabernet with the Penne Montecino: Italian sausage, wild mushrooms, and fresh herbs in a creamy, slow-simmered vidak rose cream sauce served over penne. Not that hungry? The restaurant also offers lighter portions of its entrees.

It's been a couple months since I ate here, and frankly I'd be surprised if it is still in business. But assuming it is, here is my brief review. What exactly is this restaurant's niche? The menu is all over the place, with nothing outstanding or different. In fact, it didn't strike me as bistro food at all. Several uninspiring chicken entrees, a dull (possibly frozen?) manicotti, and shrimp scampi with those small (frozen?) shrimp. There was no one in there on the Saturday night we were there (and we ended up there because the 2 other places we tried to get into were full). The owner seems sincere and our server was excellent. Atmosphere was, well, peaceful. LOL
