Black and Blue is a sophisticated, but decidedly contemporary steakhouse with a seductive design, right down to the modern lighting fixtures. With a glass wine rack above the bar you can get a glimpse of the extensive vino options. Grab a drink at the sleek bar or head to one of the cozy booths for an impressive meal. Black & Blue features modern twists on steakhouse and seafood fare. The entrees aren't cheap, but the flavor is worth it. The shrimp bisque is very good and comes in a generous portion. You'd be crazy to leave without trying one of the the juicy steaks.

Although I found the atmosphere and design of the resturant to be amazing, I was less amused by the prices on their menu compared to the quality of the meal I received. Their signature service of steak on a hot sizzling metal plate resulted in my steak being served well beyond requested doneness. My steak was dry and tasteless as a result of this style of service as it did not allow ample rest time of the steak prior to service resulting in all the natural juices being expelled upon first cut. I would not personally recommend this resturant if desiring an excellent steak. FYI the prices displayed of $7-$15 is average prices of their appetizers and salads. Their entrees are much closer to the $35-$40 range.

I too find the atmosphere and design of the restaurant amazing; unique and sophisticated for Rochester. Have had several different meals there, including steaks, and they were always prepared as ordered. One time they forgot something, and service was very responsive. Nice wine selection, but seen better. Biggest sleeper on the menu is their Pork and Beans. Personal favorite is the Black&Blue salad. For what it's worth, both of those dishes are under $20. Per Chris' comment about the average prices, the average $7-15 range must be referring to salads, appetizers, or lunch menu â" but most dinner entries fall in the $18-30 range (not $35-40). You can view their menu online for yourself.
Overall It's an impressive place that's great to have a drink at or dine or both. I haven't found a place like it in Rochester. 2Vine and Good Luck are close, but they're all different in their own well done way.
Another sleeper is their lunch menu - lots of choices for 2 people to eat for $20.
