California Rollin’ II is like California Rollin’, except for, the waitress says, the people, the food, and the ambience. OK. As at the mothership, you can get straight nigiri, standard maki rolls, or some very creative combinations. Menu and prices are basically the same as the original. Watch for specials like $1 nigiri on Mondays.

To start off with, the windows in this restaurant face the evening sun, but have no curtains or shades, so expect to be blinded by light is you sit near the window. Good advice would be to NOT sit on those old, broken down booths next to the window, anyways, because they have essentially zero padding, and tilt you an odd angle that makes you feel like you're about to slide off the front!

Our waiter was generally knowledgeable about the menu, but was clueless when it came to actual waiting. He tried twice to snatch bowls and glasses before we had finished or appetizers, yet we couldn't get his attention for a full 10 minutes once we wished to place our main order. Even then, he managed to miss the salad we ordered!

The food was was pretty much as ordered, which is to say decent, but hardly traditional Japanese fare. We ordered 2 Maki rolls, and were surprised that the Hamachi roll wasn't served with lemon (as is traditional), so we had to get the waiter to bring us some. The Sake both had parts of black on them, which any decent sushi chef would've cut off, and the escolar order came as 2 very mis-matched pieces.

At the end, we fell we were gyped when we presented our coupon, which was for a maximum of $10 off one item, when purchased with another item of equal or greater value. We assumed that it would mean that one of our rolls would be free, but NOOOO, they only applied it to the cheaper of the 2 sushi pieces we ordered, resulting in a whopping $2.95 off the tab! BEWARE!!!
