California Rollin’ is not your father’s sushi joint. You can get your straight nigiri if you want to, but the place hangs its hat on its creative maki rolls. Bacon in a sushi roll? How about garlic, cream cheese, honey mustard, raspberries, or almond butter? You just never know. Quality can be up and down, as the chefs are young and change frequently. But a trip to California Rollin’ is fun, and the adventurous can get a payoff with the occasional way-out idea that really soars.
