The warm, friendly dining room at the French Quarter Cafe has little touches that make it feel just a bit like a tea parlor or your grandmother's living room, and it serves the sort of food your mother or grandmother would cook if she happened to be from New Orleans: simple, honest, straightforward. There's a wide range of Creole dishes like po'boys, etouffe, gumbo, jambalaya, dirty rice, brabant potatoes, and a range of sides that include sweet potato casserole, sweet potato fries, and eye-opening green beans. Desserts include chewy chocolate fudge cookies that are only topped by the chocolate raspberry cookies. The French Quarter's frankly addictive sweet tea (or, in my case, several glasses) is a good way to wash it all down.

The French Quarter Cafe has settled into the Park Avenue neighborhood after moving from its 19th Ward location in 2009.

This restaurant serves a more refined, sophisticated and traditional cuisine found at better restaurants in the Quarter -- freshly prepared, inspired Creole dishes to savor in the lovely surroundings. The staff is warm, intelligent and caring; they want customers to have a fine dining experience. Nothing glitzy here, but attention to the important things that make for a fine evening with a friend, a spouse or a small group. Don't expect sauce sauce and more sauce, loud stomping music, lots of fried anything. The menu has been expanding as they settle into this new space. (A friend of mine is in heaven because the Cafe now has beignets for coffee or dessert. My husband and I recommend the bread pudding.)

Had dinner with my son last Friday evening, tried everything crawfish- everything was top-notch. My son had the Scilian Chicken and only the bones went back. Last evening some coworkers went for dinner and were raving about many items I haven't tried. They were happy and it all sounded good. I'm going back for more!
