The House of Sushi is my favorite Japanese restaurant in town, and I've tried them all many times. Located right beside Golden Port Dim Sum (and run by the same owners), you can order from both restaurants. So you can have your Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese as well. The Dragon Roll is out of this world, filled with cooked eel, avocado, cucumber, and that special sauce I could put on everything. The specialty rolls and dinner combos are great if you have a crew with you. The Pho Ga soup from Golden Port is highly recommended (huge portion), as is the Sapporo beer.

Every time I've been to House of Sushi/Golden Port I've had a positive experience. Their sushi, while not, in my opinion, the best in town (see Shiki for that), is quite good and fresh and tasty-- I would definitely choose House of Sushi over California Rollin', for instance. One of the main advantages to this restaurant is also one of its disadvantages-- it is pretty large, and has a humongous menu, so you can go there with large parties of people who have diverse tastes and probably manage to find something that everyone will like (my husband, for instance, loves House of Sushi/Golden Port because he can get orange chicken while I'm getting my hamachi fix). However, this also means that the atmosphere can feel a little claustrophic and frenetic due to all the people moving around-- it won't provide you with the most relaxing dining experience you've ever had.

After being open for only two years, The House of Sushi won the D & C's Best Sushi Award for 2006. They took little time to overtake California Rollin' who previously won the award several years in a row. The reason for this that the quality, presentation, and innovation of the sushi is on a higher level than any other place I have been in either Rochester or Toronto. The prices are very reasonable, the service is great, and the atmosphere is very casual and comfortable. A steller choice for anyone and any occasion!

What was once one of the 2-3 best places for sushi is now just about the worst. The rolls are uneven, loose and small (how much does rice cost anyways) The rice is without any seasoning, the fish is below grade, the avocado was rancid, etc...avoid at all costs

I am an avid house of sushi customer. The fish is of best quality! Service is prompt and friendly. And the interior design is one of the better designs i've seen in any sushi restaurant in the city thus far. Quite opposite of the last reviewer!! GO TRY AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF! YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!
