Martusciello's is well known for its massively long French breads, crusty loaves of Italian bread the size of car tires, sandwich rolls brushed with olive oil and herbs, and sub rolls that can stand up to even the sloppiest of ingredients. The bakery also offers cakes and pies along with great Italian pastries and cookies. In addition to the usual bakery items, it also creates a robust menu of focaccias, pizzas, calzones, and subs. Martusciello's greatness lies in its pizzas and calzones - crude-looking, misshapen, imperfectly formed objects so overloaded and abundant that they scream to be eaten. Try a pizza heaped with crumbled bacon and scrambled eggs covered in cheese, with a crust that has the fluffy substance of a focaccia with the crispy bottom of a pan pizza. There's also the eggplant calzone, with six or seven layers of beautifully thin fried eggplant cutlets inside. Martusciello's breads can be found in many local grocery outlets, but their Italian specialties are worth a special trip to the bakery.

I tried the Chicken Parm sandwich that was recommended by the girl behind the counter. The bread was good but the sandwich could have been better. My friend ordered the egg and olive sandwich and it was overflowing with filling making it really hard to eat. She ended up just eating the egg and olive and leaving behind the bread. There was lots of business so I might go back to try a different kind of sandwich - maybe the chicken parm wasn't their specialty.
