When you combine elements of Japanese, classical Catalonian, and a variety of native South American and African foodways, it creates a unique and remarkably diverse cuisine. This is what Chef Nicolas Grammatico offers at Piranha. There's a robust menu of familiar and often inventive sashimi, maki, and nigiri, but also a true tapas menu of small plates, anticuchos (grilled, skewered meats), and pan-Latino dishes like ceviche and tostones (fried and seasoned plantains). Sushi rolls include the Maui Wowie (tuna, mango, and avocado wrapped in the familiar nori and rice and drizzled with eel sauce) and the Surf & Turf (it pushes the outer limits of what could appropriately be called sushi, with a core of lobster meat surrounded by mayonnaise, avocado, cream cheese and chives, encased in sushi rice, and then enclosed in slices of rare beef tenderloin). It's not sushi, and it isn't anything like traditional tapas, but the plate of perfectly seared scallops atop a bed of polenta garnished with smoked tomato salsa and chive oil is sensationally good. Piranha also gives a nod to Peruvian street food with its chicken antucucho, served on a base of smoky-spicy mole along with brown rice.

Service very slow. Rolls mediocre. Good appetizers. A little too cramped spacewise. Perhaps given more time to work out the kinks, they can put it together. Great location.

this place seems to have worked out the problems they had as a brand new place, because when we went service was excellent, food was fantastic, and even the music was a pleasant surprise. I love the way this place really "mixes it up," like plantains next to tuna sashimi, and old school hip-hop next to blu grass, this place is a joy to the senses.

As one who has experienced different sushi places around Rochester and the US, I would have to say that Piranha is one of the best. The food is quality in terms of freshness, taste & creativity, the portion sizes are very good and the decor gives a nice overall feel. Nic aims to please and the Sunday brunches are incredible. Rochesterians should consider themselves lucky to have such a wonderful establishment available to them!

From the food to the artwork, this place is excellent and different. Do you want to dine at a sushi place that doesn't smell like fish? Piranha is the place for you! In addition, if you have someone in your party who isn't a sushi fan or you're in the mood for a hot meal, try the fish fry! Menu description: "Panko breaded cod, panâ€"fried, served with remoulade, yucca chips, and slaw." It is a meal to savor.

Excellent food, service, and price! Great sushi happy hour! Awesome staff! I highly recommend this place, better than all others in Rochester area. Not only for sushi, but for the Tapas too!

5 Star all day long !!!! My first trip there, I walked into a beautiful resturant. It has all the bells and whistles. Fine touches as well. They have fish shaped silverware. The menu has something for everyone. The Surf & Turf roll is to die for. I have never eaten anything so good. We sampled a bit of everything, The Shrip Dumplings are sooo good and the sauce they are in is so tasty. We brought our Parents that were visiting on our 2nd visit. We thought we knew what we wanted, then we saw all new things up on the specials menu. It makes you want to come back to see what new surprises they are serving. Nic has a winner here !!! The Food is Excellent, The Staff is Professional & Friendly, The Atmosphere is Wonderful.

Excellent Sushi! Lots of cool rolls. The mistletoe and the oxford rolls are two of my favorites. I've also tried some of the appetizers. The chicken satay is the best I've had. Awesome peanut sauce. Tostones(fried plantain chips), and Ceviche are also really good. The service is steady, and the atmosphere is casual.

Great for times when some members of your party don't want sushi. Surprisingly good angus burger, and great fish fry. The servers are friendly and attentive.

Amazing food....every dish was beautifully presented and so delicious. We don't want to overdo going there but can't help ourselves because the food is so wonderful. We've taken many friends and they also gave it rave reviews. We order several different dishes and then share them. Just writing this is making my mouth water!!!!! Deeeelicious!!

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Went on a Thursday after finding the wait too long at Good Luck. Pirhana had a table for us right away, but we waited and waited and waited for service in a near empty restaurant. And then waited again for our food. I ordered sushi which was okay, and husband ordered a burger. Served to us separately so that I was done well before he got his food. No apology offered for the hour wait on a burger. We won't be going back.
