Cafe 54 dishes up breakfast and lunch. Start your day with banana bread French toast served with banana caramel sauce and whipped cream. Or consider the sweet potato pancakes served with apple, cinnamon, and vanilla compote, topped with whipped cream. Both of these menu items come with a fresh fruit salad. If you visit the cafe for lunch, sample the chicken and sausage panini (served with lemon spinach pesto, roasted red peppers, and spring mix served on ciabatta or focaccia bread), the hummus pita (lemon hummus served with tomato, cucumber, roasted red pepper, spring mix, and feta cheese), or the vegetarian sandwich (Portobello mushroom marinated in balsamic vinegar, served with eggplant cappinata, roasted red peppers, and spring mix on grilled ciabatta bread).

We walked in around 3 pm on a Saturday. We approached the counter and was studying the large boards with names of various coffee drinks and smoothees. A man approached and asked if we were there for lunch. We said "no, we'd just like some coffee, please" (Now, we do this a lot. We sit with a cup of coffee and, before you know it, we're ordering everything on the menu). The man gets a confused look on his face. He looks back at another man and starts whirling his arms around like a windmill. I ask "is there a problem?" "Well, we don't do coffee." Excuse me? We both look pointedly up at the huge signs listing several coffee drinks both hot and cold. We then look pointedly at the several coffee makers behind him. Is he trying to be funny? "We're a restaurant." he says. Restaurants don't serve coffee?! We just stare at each other. Then we walked out and went down the street to Tim Horton's.
So, I can't review the food. And I will never be able to review the food, because I am never setting foot in that place again.

The food here is a work of art. and magic There is nowhere in the area you can can get 5 star cuisine for under $10.00 like this. I hope Mary from the comments above will go to Pier 45 or Two Vine and ask fot a coffee to go, I am sure they will ask her to try Tim Hortons, too.

I've been there twice, once for breakfast, once for lunch. The food was unbelievable, not what I was expecting. Mary, next time order the salmon instead of coffee, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I Stopped by on July 5th on the way home. Had a great lunch. I can recommend the Chicken Sausage Panini with spinach pesto and a side of pasta salad with squash and zucchini.
Cafe 54 has a great atmosphere and It's a great place to have lunch or just stop by with a date for coffee!
