Tartuffed - A fake Version of a Play about a Fraud
I know the play. I like the real play. This is not the play, not even an abbreviated version....this is hardly a puppet theater version of Tartuffe though it would have worked better with puppetry and slapstick Punch and Judy antics. It is more a Cliff Notes version read aloud and not a good Cliff Notes. You will get no sense of the language or wit. You will not witness any creative acting or any music. What you get is zero credibility and odd staging.
It would feel good to applaud something about this amateur effort. The venue is pleasant, the costumes appropriate. That is about all. Doing a play in name only is not better than not doing it at all.
I knew this was a Young viewers version though they said not dumbed down. Unfortunately, any teen who viewed this show would ever want to hear the name Moliere again. There are ways to simplify and shorten the great works....this is not it.
Going down hill and fast, not worth the time.
Would have been REALLY awesome if they hadn't closed an hour early when people we're still coming just because they felt like it. ESPECIALLY if they were just on TV, people will be coming from longer distances because of that. Its COMPLETELY unprofessional to turn people away from an advertised event like that. I'm very disappointed and some what disgusted by the behavior of the staff that ran the Haunted Stroll....
I do want to say, that whoever the guy was directing traffic outside, HE was a very nice guy, and seemed as distressed as I was that it was being closed early for no reason when people were still pulling in. He echoed my thoughts by saying " I hope no one drove a really long distance."
Sonnenberg has a really good reputation in the area...this is a great way to lose that. Who ever made the call to shut it down should not be working there anymore.
A few weeks ago at The Beale New Orleans and Grille located in Webster NY we were served very burned ribs.
They were covered with sauce so we could not see them burned. We are not going back.
