I loved the BB songs.
Judges: Mariah is a trip. She talks way too much & doesn't say anything. Good on Nikki for not even commenting on Lazaro.
Top 3 and the only people in this competition: Amber, Kree & Candice
Angie: I love this first song and she totally blew it. She couldn't come up with any emotion. I still don't get her...even on the piano. She doesn't strike me as being able to connect.
Janelle: sweet but totally out sung by the top women.
Lazaro: Absolutely terrible. Camera Crew must have been advised to refrain from crotch shots.
Totally agree about not liking that lilt on the end of notes with Kree.
Candice stole the show in every way.
If Lazaro still has his voting public (how could he?), tonight will be the night for the save. Don't think they would use it on Janelle but they would on Amber.

I hope that America is smart enough to take out Lazaro before he takes out someone that actually has a shot at winning. Honestly, how many people would buy his album or buy tickets to his concerts? From what I can tell it’s a very limited number and my co-workers would say no one. I just feel like his story (which sometimes doesn’t seem to carry weight) and the sympathy he is getting should have run out by now. All of the legitimate performers in the competition are female and Lazaro doesn’t hold a candle to the rest of them. If he doesn’t get sent home this week or if the judges don’t use their save there are going to be some issues from here on out.

It was with delight that I saw the listing for Dance Strasser in the City Paper. Dance Strasser, like Dance Hartwell (April 18-20, 7:30p), was student choreographed and performed. Like other adjudicated evenings of dance, what was presented on stage is only a sampling of the work being done in the Department of Dance at the College at Brockport. The listing followed just a page after Casey Carlsen's well-written preview piece on Vision of Sound, which included several Brockport dance alumni, so one has the sense that dance is taken seriously at the City Paper. That said, I feel compelled to comment.
While it is true that dancers have an advantage "over the average academic crowd," because they are artists and that is an advantage, the work they do is not easier than other academic disciplines, nor is it particularly stress relieving or simply a "work out." Artistic research takes many forms, some of it ends up on stage, some of it on the page. The choreography and performances take creativity, dedication, and discipline, just like other forms of serious study.

Agreed, LWord! That's what I was kind of getting at when writing up that blog at 12:30 a.m., but I obviously completely failed to make that point. I think it speaks very highly of Jinkx and Alaska (or very poorly of their competitors) that they've made it this far without ever being in true danger of elimination. That's particularly impressive for Alaska, who was really struggling to stand out early in the competition.
I guess the show has also decided to do away with the "bring back an eliminated queen" twist, and I'm glad for that. Both times it was done the queen was undeserving of a comeback (Carmen, Kenya) and both times they went right back out the door. I guess the double elmination/non-elimination episodes this season served the same purpose of extending the competition by a week.

If Alaska and Jinkx make it to the final three without lip synching, they've joined a special club only two past contestants are a member of. Nina Flowers (Season 1) and Tyra Sanchez (Season 2) made it to the finals without ever lip synching for their lives in past challenges.

Amber is definitely the most vulnerable girl. She is a very good singer, but her fan base is weak compared to the others because she and Candace are splitting votes (and Candace is getting the bulk). I was surprised Janelle ended up in the B2 this week given the country vote, but then I realized Kree is getting some of that, too. (Although pegging Kree as simply country isn't entirely accurate.) Amber is often ignored by the show -- she gets the least amount of camera time. And truthfully, although she's wildly talented, she is the one I forget when going through the contestants in my head. I suspect she will be the first girl to go, especially since Janelle will get a boost this week after being in danger last week.
As for Lazaro, I saw numerous posts referring to that. I am notoriously oblivious when it comes to that stuff -- a problem in my personal life, I assure you -- but apparently you're on to something there, and he's got a lot to be proud of. Trust me when I say I will be paying closer attention to the situation next week.

Why do you think Amber is the most vulnerable girl? I think she is really good. Far better than Janelle and I have to say Angie (who I totally don;t get....or I don;t like that badly handled, overly emotive

There's no doubt that the criticism of Lazaro is fueling his supporters to vote for him. If the show really wanted to get rid of him they would give him totally vague non-critiques even if he bombed, put him in the Death Slot, and given him basically no air time for the entire episode. But that won't happen. Smart viewers have noted that the judges will HAVE to use the save either next week or the week after if the show is to be extended to its announced finale date. The even money right now is that Amber will be the bottom vote-getter next week, and will be saved. I can totally see that happening. She is easily the most vulnerable girl in the competition.

Worked again last night and missed but am stunned by a few things:
1-That the contestants would say they are not familiar with a song. They should be aware of music generally and there are many many ways of listening to unfamiliar music. This is a pathetic excuse for not performing well. Ya big babies!
2-Not knowing lyrics used to be considered the kiss of death. End of the road. Period.
3- Jimmy Lovine rocks! And you are right that this is the first time EVER that he has been so specific about not liking someone. Lazaro is a big boy and should take this on the chin but still....he must sob into his pillow. Maybe all this hate is encouraging Mum;s to vote?
4-Something wrong with this system of forcing a type of music on the contestants. I guess it would be difficult to judge if it s a complete Free For All. Still.

I think it's extremely hypercritical for Idol to keep doing these Motown shows. They acknowledge that Motown has been a driving force in the history of Pop music, yet they will never hold auditions here. Detroit is teeming with talent. Always has been. I'm sick of seeing these shows passing over Detroit in favor of Chicago for their "Midwest" auditions. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ACTUALLY HAVING AUDITIONS IN MOTOWN??

My three children and I are still routing for OUR ALaska here in Florida. Most important to us it takes a very humble and heart filled individiual to be a sucessful QUEEN as well as to succeed fully in anything worth fighting for! All in all, ALASKA has all the beauty inside and out that not even ALL of the other QUEENS have balled up in one. It's always been said that "children are the most honest in heart and thought" & coming from my 12 year old daughter,10 year old son and 6 year old son, they all agree Alaska is the most fierce as well true hearted QUEEN left in this competition and deserves the crown. We also love you MOTHER RUE!!! You have helped me in explaing as well as showing my children how important it is to have love in their hearts for all even if they don't understand what that individual is all about at first glance!!!! Also thanks to MOTHER RUE for teaching the QUEENS in Tampa who taught me to love myself so that I could love others and passing that to my children.So many lessons for even a simple straight country girl to learn. Imagine how stunned I was even back in the late 90s to go to a gay club in support of my best friend and in all my confusion of meeting a QUEEN for the first time I found people I cherish and love to this day!! I also received the longest nickname in history "The prettiest lil country fag hag princess of the QUEENS" LMAO!!!!
