Re: “[UPDATED] Richards says he'll run again

Clint - Out of curiosity, why do you believe that red light cameras constitute a conspiracy to "help balance the budget on the backs of the poor"? Is there some socio-economic principle which dictates that the poor are more likely to run red lights than those in higher income brackets?

Re: “[UPDATED] Richards says he'll run again

There are many things that Mayor Richards still has to do. There needs to be a red light camera at every intersection to help balance the budget on the backs of the poor. There needs to be another hole in the ground somewhere downtown where nothing is happening. There needs to be more growling and arrogance when the media dare ask him a question he does not like. There needs to be more arguing with the MCC board about their choice of location. There needs to be more "sweetheart deals" for "Dutch" Summers. And, there needs to be less growth and more "focus and finish" on something none of us understands!

Thank God Lovely will give us a choice!

Re: “Eastman House wants another shot at vets club

I would be nice to see one less big empty parking lot.

(With apologies to Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Jule Styne)

The party's over
It's time to call it a day
No matter how you pretend
You knew it would end this way

Now you must wake up
All dreams must end
Take off your make-up
The party's over
It's all over my friend

Re: “Second chance for controversial fire program

Yet another ironic article by City Newspaper writing about the issue of racial diversity in the city fire department when their own newspaper staff has no black/ hispanic members to speak of.

Re: “ARTS: Remmereit to conduct Rochester Chamber Orchestra

Since Remmereit has already conducted for another orchestra in town will his cultists consider this to be his Second Coming?

Re: “Second chance for controversial fire program

Brumfield is in GRADUATE school to be a NURSE PRACTITIONER!

In doctor school this is the way it goes:
Watch one
Do one
Teach one

Re: “Second chance for controversial fire program

This is a great success story in spite of adversity!
In the suburbs the equivalent east high program is called the fire explorers. Where 16-18 year olds learn about the fire service before they go on to become adult firefighters.

Re: “Mayor: city will not go all out for theater

Why why WHY do we keep doing these stupid big projects that soak up tens of millions in taxpayer money? We've paid $122 million in public money (local, state, federal) for a three-story building with a whopping 300 employees in it! How is an office building on the most valuable parcel of downtown real estate going to "revitalize" downtown? The workers will commute into Rochester then leave and return to their "safe" suburban homes at night. We wonder why nothing ever comes of projects like the Fast Ferry, Ren Square, "Renaissance 2010"--how well did that work out for us?--Medley Centre. They just finished paying off the debt on Red Wings Stadium. Wow, congratulations Rochester! Most of the successful projects the last few years haven't involved a dime of taxpayer money. I've counted over $200 million the city's spent on projects that haven't panned out over the last decade that were all supposed to be THE silver bullet for our economic woes. If they had that money now, the city wouldn't have a $27 million deficit. How much more of this nonsense should we have to take from our brainless leadership. Go with what works. Quit wasting money we don't have.

Re: “Second chance for controversial fire program

HE KNOWS IT, YOU KNOW IT, NOBODY TALKS...

Lieutenant, Brumfield has become a good firefighter but why!?
The thing is we always take care of our own! It's like a baby That's been left on the front door step! With no note and no instructions. A Child within the program failed!!! No Way!!! Dr. Brumfiel was then born... No one then looked at race, creed, color, sex, religion or handicap. He was one of us!! "The Boy in Blue" He is now us men in blue!

Now he is a good man and a leader of men! Because of the men before him that taught him, trained and believed after training and he became a FIREFIGHTER!!!

Re: “Second chance for controversial fire program

GOOD, BAD, WRONG....

First and foremost.... There is a reason why City of Rochester employees take a Civil Service Exam. It is a test that all people regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religion or handicap can participate in and become competitive with the results of the exam of all the people that have taken it. The individual that scores best should be the person that is hired!! Because they are the best of the best end of story...!

We are all people of this flower city and we all want to flourish... !

If Lieutenant , Brumfield could be a Doctor! Would he have become it if they had a Doctor program?

I do not know but if I had a chance myself I'd like to try it! Hang out with Doctor's for two years and not even have to go to medical school and then presto I'm a Doctor no tests like others no school pushed through and now I'm a MD.

Where do I start my practice and how much do I get paid????

Re: “Greening High Falls

I think access, down into the gorge should be emphasized. RG&E is an obstacle.

Maybe in the future, the trail loop around the falls can connect with the river trail both to the north and south.

I agree, the plans should keep bicycles in mind.

Re: “Designing downtown

We've had master plans, strategic plans, long range plans, parking plans, retail plans, Midtown plans ad nauseum for 30 years. There is no retail because there are no people. There are no people because for decades the wizards of DOT and City Hall have made downtown hopelessly confusing to navigate by car, scary unsafe (dark, unpatrolled) to walk, and inconvenient to park (robometers may work in nyc where people have no choice, but suburban parking is free so why put up with the hassle??).

Instead of yet another plan that will sit on the shelf and collect dust, why not make downtown attractive to the people you want to attract? That would be suburbanites who want safety, lights at night, streets that are not one-way in the wrong way you want to go, and free parking. Problem solved.

Re: “Second chance for controversial fire program

why is caufield in this article? he cut the fire department over 4 years dozens of jobs and then he comments about how the hiring numbers are down? how can the city hire when jon caufield slashed jobs every year he was the fire chief. i like that the article skipped over the real question of what test do these kids take? its not the test the rest of the folks take on a saturday morning.

The benchmarks Councilwoman Essley is referring to were removed, inexplicably, by Town Attorney David Kresock.

Re: “Greening High Falls

I'm sure the GardenAerial can provide an innovative, urban space, however why invest so much energy into turning the Pont de Rennes bridge into a green space when it already is a green space. It is a fantastic and heavily used trail for walking, running, and biking. As a cyclist I was perturbed by the seemingly random and scattered placement of plants and trees during greentopia. I had to weave my bike thru it, and it made me avoid the bridge on my commute to and from work. Hopefully the new design will be conscious of the fact that the bridge is already a successful urban green space, and will work to complement green transportation and exercise, rather than hinder it.

Re: “I-Square in limbo

This just sounds like an inexperienced developer who isn't used to navigating the entitlements process, it may be stalled, but a project this big often takes 2+ years anyways. If the developer wasn't ready for that long of a commitment, then they went into the process with the wrong impression.

Re: “RPO terminates Remmereit

I remain positive. As my wise father would say, "This too shall pass." The RPO is such a jewel it will continue to sparkle. We went to the Thursday concert (Yoav Talmi), and went to hear it again Saturday. On Sunday I cheered Mozart at his birthday bash at Hochstein (Andrew Constantine). The music was superb and even though a number of musicians, sadly, are hardly on speaking terms these days, they set it aside, showed their enormous talent and wowed the audiences at all three performances.

We need to keep in mind that's it's not about personalities or individuals but about the music and the institution. I noted that the "Buttonaires" around me in the audience, and there were some, were every bit as enthusiastic and as enthralled over the programs as those who left the polemic on the sidewalk. Music was the common language. I had the privilege of taking Maestro Talmi to dinner post-concert and speaking with Maestro Constantine. Talmi had flown in from Israel to save the day. Constantine had grabbed his bag and rushed in from Baltimore to help out and lead the RPO. on Sunday Both of these renowned conductors couldn't say enough about our orchestra.

Anyone who urges withholding contributions, returning or not buying tickets or boycotting this treasure in any way cannot claim to value and support the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
