Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6 Reunion/Finale: And the winner is…

This finale is awful just saying. They should just call it a reunion and have it after the finale. Do the final competition in front of an audience and crown the winner. Then do a reunion show Real Housewives style, no audience-and let the fur fly. But this will never happen, because, again, Ru is stuck on the 'learning lessons' crap and the 'everything must turn out positive' vibe. (Get some bitch diva legends like Joan Collins in for next season's judges, I want to see more of that) The right queen won, at least.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6 Reunion/Finale: And the winner is…

Great post (as usual). I've really enjoyed reading your reviews of the RPDR episodes all season; they have been well-thought out, on-point, and quickly posted. A's all around! I hope you'll continue to write reviews for the show next season, whether that ends up being All Stars 2 or Season 7.

I would like to add that I agree with you about the editing this season making certain queens (Courtney and Darienne, especially) look unduly 'villain'-esque. At the same time, though, I think the editors did a pretty good job of building tension for who would come out on top between Adore and Bianca. I was on Team Bianca from the start, but since Adore had been given so much confessional time and was clearly being allowed to slide through the competition in certain stages, it made me nervous for Bianca that the show might crown Adore to appeal to a broader fan base and/or younger demographic. And this worry remained with me until the end despite the objective fact that Bianca Del Rio has been the strongest competitor in Drag Race herstory. So at least that part of the editing did its job, in spite of some of the more damaging editing that also occurred.

Thanks again!

Re: ““Game of Thrones” Season 4, Episode 7: Mockingbird

"Mockingbird" wasn't as neatly assembled as some of its Season 4 predecessors. Tyrion having three visitors already meant that we'd have to shift away to other stories before returning back to his cell. And having that single Dragonstone scene in there didn't help with the overall fluidity. But we did get three excellent moments with Tyrion, a freshly-sexed Dany letting her "advisor" actually advise her, a murderous love triangle at The Eyrie (that only two people in the triangle seemed to care about), and more awesomeness from Arya.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

I am a straight married woman who adores RuPauls Drag Race & owns the DVDs.
Ideas from me would be for a prettiest eye contest, legs that flirt ( have the Pitt crew carry waste up covering so we can see how good they are to sissy that walk), a fingernail challenge, a Poetry contest, & something that challenges the Queens to use gloves in some special way.
I thought it ironic that a my fav Season Six queen Bianca Del Rio, is admonished for wearing a lot of long dresses on the show. .. when that's what Ru Paul wears.
Thanks for sharing your interesting review. I liked season 5 the best because of the conflicts.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

This was a really dull recap episode, and I can't believe they didn't show the double-split LSFYL where Joslyn upstaged "death drop" Estranga. That was really a highlight of the season. The commentary from previous season queens is always terrible, they don't give them enough time or anything useful to do (and frankly, most of them are lousy commentators, except maybe Alaska and Jinkx).

And I'm going to say it - can we just get rid of the sewing challenges? Just because the show was modeled on Project Runway (among others) doesn't mean it has to include sewing challenges. Maybe just one "make an outfit" challenge, but does anyone really expect drag queens to be seamstresses or designers?

I agree Santino has become boring, though it may be they don't give him enough air time to hear what he has to say. I don't have a problem with a consistent core judging panel, as long as the judges have clear perspectives - Visage is the emotional one and Santino is supposedly got the eye to critique looks. Is there any real judging that happens at all on this show really? Maybe they just need to make the judging REAL and not so clearly fixed by the producers (and maybe RuPaul).

Thanks for your recaps/reviews, they have been terrific.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

Lessoned learned and observed:

Unless there are interviews with the actual contestants and/or family members, why bother. It's a fluff piece episode that could have been used to eliminate the 4th queen or bring back one that was booted earlier or even do some sort of location/outdoor challenge.

Just more proof that Raven and especially Shangel are truly horrible people.

Even now, years after their appearances, like metal on a chalkboard, they still manage to grate ones nerve.

Did Jujubee have work done on her face, euww?
Why did Sharon look and sound like Joan Rivers?

JInxx and Raja looked...marvelous!

And good gawd almighty, more Magda Gabor, I mean Mooseknuckle/Puppy Puss Kardashian???
On twice? And it turns out it was a 'crossover' show segment that never got shown.
Punked by the Gabor sister. Priceless.

And next week...well Pandora already announced her Aussie tour with Trinity. Oh yeah, Yara, MIlk and Bianca 'del Niro' will be there too. So apparently it's the Bring the Crown Home tour. Does it really matter who wins anymore? You seek out your favs and throw them a few bucks as they work the crowd and hope that one day, you will get read to filth by the funny one.

"Were drag queens in a competition. The only thing worse is prison". Priceless.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

I've been listening to some of Ru & Michelle's podcasts (I turn it off when they start talking about makeup and nails-like what do I care?), and I get that they want to make a positive impact on the world-but a reality competition is not really the place to do it. Sure I get that Ru wants to be a role model for these aspiring superstars, but I don't need to see a fucking life lesson with each queen. It's a COMPETITION. I want to see more of that rather than "The More You Know..." Plus let's see more real world challenges, I say put them in front of a crowd in a gay club, and see how many people they get to pay attention to them! Something like that. Most of these queens are going to end up at the clubs using their name to get more patrons. Let's be truthful about it. So the acting challenges and commercials-well, they're fun but maybe there's a little too much of that. And VISAGE HAS TO GO.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

I totally agree with you. I really think they need to re-tool the final challenge. It's getting boring! I really don't care for a video to a song I most likely will not hear after the episode airs. Why not challenge the queens to one last test which would showcase their acting, dancing, and sewing skills all at once.

I also feel like they need to figure out how to get a proper top 3 ranking. It's getting frustrating that there's always a 1st place winner then the other two are tied for 2nd place. I would suggest that in the episode prior to the "reunion" show, they have two challenges. Eliminate a queen during the first one and other one in the second challenge. That way we'd know who who was 4th and 3rd. Then in the reunion episode we'd have a top 2. That way, the produces would save on production costs having to film only two possible endings.

Yes I agree with all you have here the only thing I didn't like was the no immunity clause that should have stayed and I agree Gia and LaGanga were the worst and I pegged the top three with in the first 5 shows.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

Cork that whine. Editing can't put words in their mouths and International exposure won't take bread off their tables. Hiring managers understand editing (hopefully) and if their clientele want a particular queen, demand trumps edit. There's more to these "poorly edited" queens than their alleged bitchy persona. They also portrayed C.U.N.T, which helped them get on the show and will help after. So you'd be wrong to assume some tragic career post-RPDR based on editing.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6: The RuCap, OR Lessons Learned from S6

These are great lessons! Especially about the editing. This season focused way more on the "TV" of Reality TV than it did the "Reality".

I think Santino's voice is what keeps him around. I like hearing a deep booming bass of a voice after listening to shrieking Adore/Gia/Ben voices. If they replace him, they just need someone with an equally pleasing sound.

The other reality show that pertains to your last lesson might just be the one this show is pretty much based on, America's Next Top Model. It's easier for bitches there to get booked obviously because they're not really getting booked through the fans, but through agencies. So in that respect, the girls with the bitch edits from drag race have a harder time. I'm sure girls like Phi Phi and Roxxxy know this all too well. But that's kind of what u sign up for when u join reality tv, you sign away the future perception of yourself to editors.

Re: “"Breaking Bad": The good and bad of the finale

Open ended: What about the Lily of the valley plant. Walter had discarded when and how did Jesse realize it had been used by Walt?
Open ended: Why did the neo nazi Jack's family come to do the hit even though Walt said not to.
Open ended:What happened to Walt's money? (a camera pan to a shot of it's location would have been great.. ) Jesse left without a thing except an old car..but it would have been nice to see him with a stash of cash somewhere in the car to leave and start over with.
Open ended: Brock left alone..wouldn't Jesse go look for him? or wonder about him?
I think one of those "where they ended up" montages would have been wonderful. Especially since the show already ended.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 12: Sissy That Walk

How many knew that the "big" girl would not make the top three. How any "big" girls have there been? The only "big" girl that made it past half time was Latrice Royale and she, like Darienne was eliminated from the top four.

Darienne never had a chance to get in the top three. Bianca also has no chance of winning. The question is will Ru go with the on-the-nose queen (Courtney) or will she crown the quirkly Adore.

I have a feeling that it will be Courtney, simply because it good business to crown the foreigner. I remember when Tyra Banks ANTM had the Brits against the Americans. Predictably, Sophie the Brit, beat out the better American model, Laura.

When the season first started, I knew that the top two would be Adore and Courtney simply because of their previous celebrity.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 12: Sissy That Walk

I find it strange that no one has commented on the fact that Bianca and RuPaul's BFF Lady Bunny do a show together in NYC. I'm not sure how long they've been working together, but I get the impression it's been a while. I think there's no way Bianca's not going to win, and while I do agree that she's talented, polished, etc, I definitely think that having the contacts that she does helps her cause enormously (and possibly unfairly). Maybe Bianca's been getting such a flawless edit this season for that very reason?

As far as I can see, her triumph's been a foregone conclusion since the minute she first walked in the workroom, just like it was for fellow industry-insider Raja in Season 3.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 12: Sissy That Walk

I like the top 3 although I thought the same as most people about Ben DeLa not deserving that elimination.
I liked DeLa, I like Courtney and I like Adore but if anyone else but Bianca wins this season I'll be seriously disappointed. I don't want to be reading things like "Bianca didn't really need the crown blah blah she's already a winner blah blah" because she DESERVES to win.
They changed what they did in previous seasons (up to and including season 3) when they would allow the most deserving queen the win of the week's challenge because it was making it obvious who was going to be crowned and I understand that but at the same time Bianca could have easily won Snatch Game, was great at Oh no she betta don't, could have won "Glamazon by ColorEvolution", etc. They just decided to give the win to other Queens so that they can justify them getting further in the competition.

Bianca is the most polished, most deserving of the crown. I've been watching RPDR since season 1 and had I never been so taken by a Queen from day 1. I loved Bianca since the moment she stepped into the workroom.
#TeamBianca all the way!
