Re: “Best of Rochester 2012

Love to see a Best of Rochester Bed and Breakfast category.

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Restaurants

I really wish there were more than one in each category. Why not show who won 2nd, 3rd, maybe a few honorable mentions? Also, I'm surprised that none of the restaurants display a badge of some sort on their website that they won Best of Rochester. Seems like something they'd want to brag about. If I was behind the marketing for this I'd make sure each restaurant had a badge to display proudly on their website and a plaque to hang in their restaurant. http://www.ct.com/entertainment/best-of-ct…

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Shopping

Again, personal preference. I enjoy Rohrbach's Highland, Scotch, Red Wing, & Railroad. That said, I'll definitely look into trying CBs White Hop & Krystoff. I WAS talking bricks & mortar however... Can you technically call 3HB a brewery? If so, then I agree with you (w/ the exception of Bromigo). Cheers!

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Shopping

If you're talking to me about a brick-and-mortar, I defy you to find me a beer that Rohrbach's has ever brewed that's better than CB's White Hop. And their Krystoff is terrific. You have to get your head out of the City and realize that CBs is brewing completely different beer in the last year.

But in terms of beer, nothing beats Three Heads. And they've been around for all of a year.

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Shopping

What IS the place then Benny? CB's? ROC? Perhaps Rohrbach's is just better known than the others? Regardless, you can't say they don't have some decent (even good) beers... if you did, I might be inclined to say you don't know anything about beer.

Or maybe it simply comes down to personal taste - rather than what some wannabe beer-snob might insist?

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Shopping

Can't wait for when people who actually know something about beer vote for a place not because they can also get a Buffalo Chicken sandwich, but because it has exceptional beer.

Because Rohrbach's is not the place.

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Restaurants

Nefret: Those categories were in the 2011 Best of Rochester Poll, but were not in the 2012 version. But never fear, they may return next year.

What happened to Best Dessert and Best Asian restaurant? I remember these categories being on the ballot...

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012

There should be a breakdown of the mobile food vendors... Best Food Truck, Best Food Trailer, Best Food Cart-just to be fair. This year 3 of them were all in the same category. Thanx . Congrats to Le Petit Poutine again and LBF & Snow Daze are grateful for the nominations..

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012

You should add a Best Bike Shop category. There are a fair amount of places to buy bikes in Rochester.

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Media

It is an outrage that the New York State Fracking issue has not been thoroughly investigated in our Rochester local media. Some might say that Fracking (slang for hydraulic fracturing) is so controversial that our local media is afraid to upset their subscribers and potential ad consumers. But what’s the point of being a news agency if you don’t investigate controversial issues? Some would say if you are ‘pro’ Fracking or ‘anti’ Fracking you cannot be objective on Fracking. I say that is the wrong heuristic because the focus of our attention should be on the health of our environment, not on the health of a particular industry. Our media needs to change their notion of ‘objectivity’ when it comes to environmental issues, especially as Climate Change becomes the lens from which we should view all environmental issues. We are supposed to be informed about important issues by our media, not blinded by them.

Best Diner where you at?

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Restaurants

I disagree with Salena's being the best Mexican. I had my hopes up for the food being great just from the rave reviews I'd gotten from friends, but when I finally went for dinner the food was very bland and overall meh for the price. The cheap "mom and pop" style places (Los Gallos, Monte Alban) have the best food.

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Arts & Entertainment

Geva Comedy Improv beats Lissow?! I thought I was in the minority, but maybe the rest of Rochester agrees after all? Those guys have been bringing it for years, and they've definitely earned their award of for the 3rd straight year. Anybody check that Zombie Show at Fringe Fest or the New Years Eve show? The Regis Philbin heart-attack was hysterical!

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Restaurants

Hahvahd St, I agree with what you say...this is a poll that represents what people like, I'm just surprised that this is what people like! I also agree that Jines is overrated...I never understood the love that people had for it, and admittedly I still don't. The food trucks at the Public Market are amazing! Hello Arepa makes the most amazing breakfast arepas...they are fun, and different. How about Flour City Diner for brunch? Napa Wood Fired Pizza is the best we can do for pizza? Check out Fiamma...kills Napa. Best Sushi California Rollin'? Really?? Where's Nikko? Where are places like Good Luck for appetizers,? Is anyone getting my drift? We are such a culture of comfort here in Rochester. We have tons of new, innovative and progressive restaurants opening here in Rochester, but we still say that Mark's Pizza is the best....Jay's Diner.....Palmer's???....it's sad to see!! I could go on and on, but I won't. See, now I'm all worked up...

For the folks who listed fracking as the most ignored local news story for 2012, please follow @innovationtrail or visit www.innovationtrail.org for ongoing coverage, and background dating back to 2010.

Re: “Best of Rochester 2012: Restaurants

Got any suggestions? This is a poll, so the way those work is by giving a general idea of what many people like. If lots of people like a place, it usually wins. If lots of people like a place, it can't be that terrible. I can't really argue with most of these selections, although I find Jines to be very overrated and that the Public Market's various food stands to be the best breakfast spot.

With the exception of Rocco this list does not show any signs of progression in the Rochester food culture.
