As a former East Rochester resident and graduate, I lived in Gleason Estates, and at the end of this get off ramp, there are 2 speed limit signs before you hit the first light at Roosevelt and Country Club that say 30 MPH. By law, by time you hit that 2nd sign, your suppose to be doing the speed limit posted. One suggestion would be having flashing yellow lights around the speed limit signs warning of what the town/village limits are and one stating that violations will be prosecuted to the fullest extent, AND/OR, using police radar at that corner and writing tickets, generating $$ for ER, hopefully will deter people from driving any faster than the speed limit is for the town/village.
Former Mayor Johnson was being very sensitive with his words. He knows what everyone else does. This initiative sounds great but it is too big and it will have minimal influence on eventual high school outcomes. The Mayor and her team need to step up like they promised. The school system itself needs to be realigned. Focusing on the early years is just their way of avoiding the real monsters.

Whatever happened to Pittsford developer? His plans seemed to be more well liked by everyone. Why not employee this local developer? Why use a developer from another country? There is money in it for someone. Guaranteed. I've been in Charlotte my whole life. It does need good development. The marina will be great and retail will be great, I am not a fan of these expensive condos. Why piss off a whole neighborhood for a few rich people to live in high rise to look at a dirty lake? Makes no sense. A lot of thing make no sense.
Overall this is an excellent article. I only have a couple of minor issues with it.
The author described the historical use of Truvada as being "taken by AIDS patients." Most people with HIV do not have AIDS. HIV and AIDS are NOT interchangeable terms.
The only people who progress to AIDS these days, are those who have not been responsible enough to get tested regularly. As they are unaware of their status, they do not seek treatment. Usually they only become aware of their HIV status after their immune system has been severely damaged, and they are diagnosed with an AIDS defining illness. Those people would have carried HIV for many years, without knowing it. People with undiagnosed HIV are responsbile for over 83% of new infections. Additionally there are some that progress to AIDS who may have known their serostatus, but have been unable to access treatment and medical follow-up, due to lack of insurance, financial reasons, or social situations such as poverty or homelessness.
Your article discusses the Stigma of HIV and PrEP. The acronym AIDS carries an even heavier burden of Stigma. Labelling those with HIV as "AIDS patients" contributes to a misinformed public, and a fear of HIV testing by those who may be at risk.
The story is about PrEP. It leaves the impression that Truvada must be used with condoms. Truvada for PrEP provides as much protection from HIV transmission as a condom, if not better. This fact is one of the reasons the CDC no longer describes all acts of condomless sex as "unprotected." PrEP is safer sex! The CDC and other medical professionals will always recommend condoms for protection from other STIs.
First there was global cooling. Then Global warming. Now it's climate change. Can you please make up your mind? It's very hard to take you seriously. How about just living sustainable.? None of the (cooling, warming, climate change) solutions are sustainable and thus add to the problem.
I agree with Susan Spencer that the technology is there to convert to renewable energy right now. But deniers and obstructionist will cite the perceived obstacles to getting this done. They say "how can you keep the fleets of our airplanes and automobiles, ships and trains running without fossil fuel?" We need an articulate and accurate response to these objections that resonates with consumers and investors alike. Producers and investors need to be convinced that renewable energy is more profitable than fossil energy. Then, like the LED light bulbs, they will build it and the public will buy it.
You guys are all missing the point. $1m for a condo without supermarkets, not more than a few modest restaurants, no public transportation, no entertainment options, a commute through one of the toughest neighborhoods in our city and a lake that one often can't swim in. Charlotte is a blue collar community with a smathering of fat cats. We are no longer living in a world where "if we build it, they will come."
Is RESET promoting a Vegan diet with its awareness with Climate change?
Are they going clean the lake too? It's disgusting...I can't swim today, but the bacteria in the water may be just at the safe level tomorrow...Yeah, that's worth buying $200,000 condo!

This parcel of land is not lakefront. To get to the beach, residents would need to traverse a parking lot and a treed picnic area. None of the condos would have good views of the lake. Lake lovers would also be dissatisfied that they couldn't hear the surf from their windows.
Northernlake there's 210,565 taxpaying residents that live in the city of Rochester that can be considered owners of this property, 2,300 barely represents 1% of the total population against this project. But even if you take into account just the neighborhood of Charlottes population that survey indicates that 75% of the total residents are indifferent or perhaps even for this project.
As for this project I'm sure this project could be easily filled up, we have large scale waterfront proposals in Fairport, Brighton, Pittsford, Citygate, and even Canandaigua. I'm sure a lakefront property of the one of the largest lakes in the US is even more desirable than a view of the canal.
How can you say (Kevin Allen) that it is a few that are not happy, when " the petition that Charlotte Strong gathered with more than 2,300 names asking the city for a new port developer." We are not saying we don't want development, just not this project. Have you sat in on any of Greg Weykamps meetings and listen to him double talk?? He spoke of cutting down the trees in the park, even Councilperson Palumbo said at the last CCA meeting that I attended that can't be done He talks to talk sometimes it seems..And I think John Smith is pretty ridiculous thinking the people who have lived n Charlotte (many for generations!) should move out if they don't like it!
Weykamp admits that the views aren't all that great. He wants to build only a few condos and see what happens.
Maybe he's starting to realize that this location isn't going to be right for luxury accommodations and amenities.
He should pull out.
For Charlotte to succeed, they need to be competitive with their fellow city neighborhoods - namely, the attractive, vibrant ones like Park Avenue and the South Wedge, and not to mention our growing downtown. If Charlotte tries to emulate the car-centric, low-density suburban lifestyle, they will fail because people who want that lifestyle will NEVER move to the city. There are plenty of suburban neighborhoods on/near the water just like Charlotte is, so that's not a unique selling point either.
City neighborhoods have to appeal to city people. And a huge part of urban appeal is walkability, which requires a population dense enough to sustain retail, restaurants, and services in a concentrated area. And in an area with limited space, that means mid- to high-rise apartment/condo buildings. If you can't deal with that, then maybe a vibrant urban neighborhood just isn't for you.
And also, those vast parking lots belong to a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Henrietta. TAKE THEM OUT.
I have a feeling they'd consider anything over 1 story a "high rise". In other words, if any building is constructed, they don't want it for some odd ball reason.
