There are virtual and real (paper) mountains of STEM (scientific, technical, engineering, and medical) data and information, the findings of every national academy of science in the world, the position statements of scores of professional societies and associations, and the common sense of a Fifth Grade student that says (not claims) global climate change is real, it is caused by human activities, it is happening faster and with greater consequences than thought five, ten or twenty years ago. The U.S. department of defense lists the increasing rates of science and math illiteracy and the increasing threats of political instability attributed to climate change as major threats to the U.S. national security. However, there are an alarming number of people that betray their near-total science illiteracy by holding on to the misguided, fossil fuel-funded, and extreme political ideologies by denying that climate change is real. The electorates for every political race have an obligation NOT to send to county, state or Federal elected offices science illiterates. While a vast majority of the world is implementing or planning to implement soon the existing technologies for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the United States finds itself still debating the realities of living in a greenhouse gas constrained world. A factor, when deciding for whom to vote on November 6th, is sending candidates to their offices that have knowledge of living in a world not constrained by greenhouse gases. F.W. j.a.m. - Since Obama's "illegal government takeover" of health care was approved by both houses of Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court you must be using a definition of "illegal" which the rest of us are unfamiliar with. Could you please elaborate?
As to Slaughter, I do find it amusing that City's case FOR her re-election is less than half the length of the case AGAINST Maggie Brooks. One would have thought that the ratio should have been reversed given Slaughter's decades of experience in Congress.
Wouldn't it have been much simpler to just cite the best reason for voting for Slaughter ,which by the way is the same single best reason for voting for Obama? Namely, that they're not conservatives?

You claim that advertisers must share City's political stance or they wouldn't advertise here. And that they risk losing conservative customers by advertising n this "liberal rag".
Out of curiosity, where have you been living?
Do you believe that only left wing companies advertise in the NY Times (another notorious "liberal rag")? Do only social and political neanderthals buy air time on Fox or WHAM? When Maggie Brooks wants to announce some county event to the public does she abstain from utilizing the pages of the D&C in order to avoid being infected by those Leftys? Do no corporations with a conservative stance pay to sponsor NPR?
While YOU may advocate boycotting businesses or organizations who advertise in publications of which you disapprove , the rest of us of will simply thank you for the laughs and continue to buy from whom we please, sans the NeoCon litmus test.

By freezing the property tax rate the city and town assessors were forced to artificially inflate home assessments to get the tax money they require. This has resulted in an enormous increase in the number of homes that sell below assessment. As a result we have, in effect, a large undeclared tax increase. I am waiting for any local news organization to look into this. When homeowners fight their assessments some assessors(not all), lie in the hearings in an attempt to when out over the homeowner. Look at your own assessment. Has it gone up faster than the market prices?

The City newspaper has always been a liberal rag. This article takes those political views to a new level though. This magazine is largely funded through advertising, and such one sided politics in a big advertisement, leads me to believe all of the businesses advertising share the view of the paper, or they would advertise elsewhere. While I respect businesses freedom to express their political views, this is just poor business practice to advertise in a publication with a clear political agenda. They are very seriously risking alienating almost half of their potential customers. While I will still support the businesses that pay to advertise in this paper, I can imagine many people will not, based on articles such as this. This is going to be a very close race, and in tough econimic times, it could be very costly to a business to lose even a few potential customers due to such blatantly biased "reporting".

Another ticking time bomb for Monroe County taxpayers is the fact that virtually no sewer (Pure Waters) infrastructure has been built since 1992. This failure has resulted in the sewer and VanLare overflows and the runoff that has kept our Lake Ontario beaches closed far too often in recent years. This year our beaches were named as among the 10 worst in the Nation. Brooks and the County Legislature's failure to upgrade and increase capacity for our sewer and storm sewer systems will require massive expenditures in the near future. Brooks poor stewardship of infrastructure will be rued.

I find it pretty irresponsible on the columnist and specially the editor of this publication to publish such blatantly biased articles, against Ms Brooks and in favor of Ms Slaughter. I really have not made up my mind about my vote for congress, but reading your articles and specially the way they are written, leads me to believe that you have a heavy agenda in favor of liberalism and clearly anti-conservatisvism.......and here I am, naive me, thinking all responsible publications tried very hard to be fair and in the middle.

I'm always happy to read a hit piece, so thank you for that. And, my mind was already made up, so I appreciate the opportunity to revisit my opinion.
If nothing else, 3 decades and 83 years are enough. The Politburo had a shorter lifetime track.
Please vote, especially against all incumbents.

In other words, Slaughter is an anti-life zealot and all-around partisan extremist (91.3% rating) who's completely out of touch with mainstream, hardworking Monroe County families and taxpayers. Your editorial demonstrates that she's accomplished nothing good after decades in Congress.
Oh, but of course she's all for Obama's illegal government takeover of your family's health care, and dumping your hard-earned dollars down the drain on ludicrous boondoggles like "high speed rail".

Damn straight! About time we taxpayers (excuse me, we "extremists") got a little representation to go with our taxation!
It's hilariously mind-bending that this editorial denounces ordinary, hardworking, taxpaying, patriotic Americans as "extremists," while in the process of endorsing an actual, bona fide, dyed-in-the-wool extremist. For gadzooks sake, what alternate universe do ye people inhabit?

Also, Brooks has no use for those people who aren't taxpayers. It's the money the drives everything---the scandals, the perks for friends.
