Re: “Sheriff's Office to get body cameras

According the Gates Police department they've utilized these camera's since 2007 AFTER a Gates resident filed charges against 2 officers.
It's widely known that a Rochester resident was brutalized on March 27, 2009 and Gates police, court and numerous others conspired to HIDE video and audio footage surrounding this case.

Camera's are absolutely necessary to protect citizens, and if one purposely hides evidence in video it's a major RED FLAG.

Power Corrupts. Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.

Re: “Hawkins, to protest and push progressive ideas

Your article stresses the importance of being informed and having the option to view politics as more than voting for the lesser of two ev... The need for the Platform Hawkins supports seeks to change the direction of politics from control of the established powerful to the value of real people who face more and more struggles. Having a vision providing solutions can become reality if we work for it!! Bonnie Cannn

Re: “Hawkins, to protest and push progressive ideas

Such wonderful ideas from Hawkins: $15 minimum wage, publicly funded health care (don't we already have the wondrous Obamacare?), free tuition to SUNY and CUNY, 12 weeks of paid family leave, funding for abortions, more DEC funding, public campaign funding...what a fantastic wish list!
So in the HIGHEST TAXED and most BUSINESS UNFRIENDLY state in America, how does Mr. Hawkins intend to pay for all of this? I don't see a single word about how the taxpayers will be affected by this tax-and-spend agenda. He must be completely out of touch with reality. The exodus from NY by business and people who actually work for a living (already at alarming levels) will accelerate as a result of all this fiscal irresponsibility.

Re: “Keep Louise Slaughter

Louise Slaughter is the most qualified candidate, her vast experience is needed, her knowledge and Congressional experience are priceless. Let's see, Gates Town Supervisor for 4 years against Louise Slaughter's knowledge. No contest, Louise Slaughter wins! I am also tired of the Republican's many failed attempt to limit health care, deny voter's their rights, making up false claims against the president and their questionable ethics in accepting money from corporations and special interest groups who benefit from their connections with politicians to get what they want. Vote for Louise who truly works for the people.

Re: “Hawkins, to protest and push progressive ideas

If you have met both Cuomo and Hawkins, as I have, you would know immediately who to vote for. Hawkins can can about a wider range of ideas than Cuomo for the simple fact big donors prevent Cuomo from doing so.

For intelligence unencumbered by corporate constraints, vote for Hawkins.

Hawkins is also the anti- fracking candidate.

Re: “O'Brien has earned a second term

I posted two questions to Rich Funke's Facebook page. 1. Do you plan to repeal or replace the Safe Act. If you replace it, what is your better plan to curb senseless gun violence? 2. Are you for or against hydrofracking in NY? My post was deleted.

Do not vote for a COWARD!

Re: “Keep Louise Slaughter

Give me a break. Slaughter is a fossil and should tend to her great grand-children.
Its time for change. Louise needs to step aside, She and her liberal agenda is drilling this country into the ground, Bye Bye Louise

Re: “Cuomo talks Moreland Commission on Charlie Rose

I don't believe Cuomo has been saying this all along about disbanding the Moreland Commission once ethics reform was passed. Rather, he dodged media for weeks if not months. Someone finally figured out a cleaver way for Cuomo to answer this question. Thanks, focus groups and political consultants! Nothing to see here, folks....

Re: “Preliminary hospital designs to be shown

I have not been following media coverage of this, but it seems to me that a discussion of "hospital sprawl" is important; and a discussion of hospitals as money-makers is also important (that's better said "hospitals as businesses"). And, to be thorough, a discussion of healing (expectations, healing methods). I am happy to continue the discussion here, but I don't know if Comments is a good place to have a discussion. I welcome further articles from City or maybe even links to existing discussions.

Re: “O'Brien has earned a second term

It is no surprise that you endorsed O'Brien. After all, you only endorsed liberal candidates, and your only criticisms of ji were on issues where he was not lefty enough. Fortunately, endorsements have little to no impact on how people vote. I do wonder why you call it a competitive race however. There is a 25 point gap, which about the same as in the race for governor, and I do not think anyone thinks that race is competitive. It is important for people to come and vote O'Brien out of office though, because it is important to have the state Senate turn Republican. The Assembly has changed since 2010; they have moved to the left, reflecting the NYC vote. Cuomo showed that he could negotiate with theopposition party, but one party control would result in the DeBlasio agenda: hostility towRds charter schools, no teacher accountability, higher spending and taxes, and an anti business climate.

Re: “Astorino talks tax plan in Rochester stop

"Living beyond its means and relying on gimmicks disguised as tax relief". Hmm, like how we always hear someone at West Main St. talk about maintaining the property tax RATE, which isn't the same thing as actual taxes paid? Tax assessments keep getting hiked year after year or "one shots" like state aid and tobacco settlement money are used to balance the budget (or things are just cut). Anything to avoid raising taxes. Even if that means the county may be bankrupted by 2020. Not that Maggie cares anymore. She's term-limited and isn't going to run for Louise's seat again. She'll just enjoy her pension and accumulated earnings of almost $1.5 million, on top of her husband's pension and salary.

Re: “Astorino talks tax plan in Rochester stop

Kind of rich that Maggie suggests that the state uses gimmicks to finance... out of all the county execs, she would know a finance gimmick to make her finance numbers work. Maybe she wants credit for thinking of the gimmicks first?

Re: “O'Brien has earned a second term

O'Brien says he responds to input from constituents? Only when it's convenient apparently. He voted for Cuomo's anti-gun SAFE ACT like all the rest of Cuomo's rubber-stamp legislators - no debate, no discussion and a highly questionable process. Is O'Brien proud of that accomplishment?
