Jeremy-They either have lived with Morelle at some point (ie. his namesake) or in the case of Bello, Seeley and Barnum, have all worked for him (Bello as Constituent Director, Exec. Director of the Democratic Committee, Democrat town leader and Morelle's spy in the DA's office, Seeley is Morelle's Senior Advisor and Barnum has been a long time member of Morelleland. Irondequoit residents now live in Morelleville. I know CITY is deathly afraid of Morelle's influence but get over it. You're an alternative newspaper, not an MCDC mouthpiece.
I participated in the charrette. I presented our groups findings at the end of the day. One interesting point I would like to make: there were some statements in presentations by folks that participated that tended to lean on some gentrification of the two mobile-home parks in the village. I intend to participate further. I hope we can do so without resorting to gentrification.
Yes, the print version is incorrect. Totally my fault. A million apologies to Jeremy, who wrote a terrific story that now runs the risk of being overshadowed by a stupid mistake.
The print version used reigning which is used to describe who is the monarch.
Yes, it should be reining in.
Thanks for using the correct word in this headline.
I suspect you're being hyperbolic, but none of the candidates live with Assembly member Morelle, and of the candidates, only one is currently a Morelle staffer.
Voters generally like party hacks and insiders. This is the only trend I see in the voting. Greece's answer to the town's notorious corruption was to elect the leader of the county GOP machinery. Even the winning challengers (in the city and towns) were mostly insiders. All school board members were reelected and the leader of Gates is so popular, no challenger existed--unanimous acclaim for the incumbent! The Town of Irondequoit wants the Morelle's to be its tax dependents for life.
Might as well rename Irondequoit Morelleville. Everyone elected either lives with Assemblyman (and MCDC chair) Joe Morelle or has been on his payroll for years.
I honestly don't think Warren's victory proves anything where the primary is concerned. Many who supported Richards in the primary (but didn't vote for some reason) supported Warren *now* because they either bought the notion that they couldn't or shouldn't vote for Richards or they felt loyalty to the Democratic party and won't break out of that habit for anyone.
Since she failed to garner the sixty percent of Democrats in the city, it seems pretty clear, to me (a non-Democrat) at least, that her victory was exactly what it's been said it was: a motivated minority defeating a lackadaisical majority.
Love to, Steve. But we've got to get it right. Better to be right, than first.
It's past 9 p.m. There are more races than Sheriff. Start calling 'em.
More sour grapes from the Eastman House.
Having failed in their previous underhanded attempt to gain possession of this property they now try (unsuccessfully) to claim they THEY'RE the victim !
Welcome neighbors! Stop by 6 atlas street some time
As they say in the meat processing business, no matter how you package it, it's still baloney!
Teaches you perception is reality and the complex problem is when you don't understand the perceptions others have for you, your country or your cause. More often than not were too caught up in the culture shock and cannot comprehend that there are cultures out there that differ from our own and that ours is not the best, none is better or worse.
Ha! Who said Tom Richards' projects don't bring jobs downtown?
how come you fail to mention that the city council all voted to let deputy mayor reardon pay only 144 dollars in property taxes on his 300,000 dollar condo and many other major political contributors. rochester is a corrupt joke. all because they have the people believing their lies!!! just because they are democrats they get away with everything. people need to wake up and look at the people not the party!! stop the greed go with green!~~~
your election guide is a joke, yes return the same old same old. fill in our inner loop spend 20 million dollars on a beauty project?? spend 30 million dollars on condos in a public park??? the list goe s on and on with these city council members maybe the problem is they are all lawyers. they sell off rochester piece by piece to developers but you suppor this because they fund your paper!!!
