Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 12: Sissy That Walk

So, it’s all about the Benjamin’s.

Santino either committed the cardinal sin of reality show production or was simply stating the obvious. It’s about the brand. It’s about making deals and foreign markets. It’s about the money. This has been obvious from day one of this season.

In years past it was ‘Who can best represent you (Ru) and be the next Supermodel of the world?’.

But now, as we’ve seen in each episode of this season, it’s “There’s $100.000 dollars at stake, are you worthy?” Ru even said this during the one-on-one luncheon. It was an odd moment and very cringe worthy, almost said with spite and contempt. Or was that true drag queen “T’?

Granted that’s what successful producing is all about, but usually it’s done behind the scenes away from the half-assed compassion that’s supposed to be projected. Or maybe just hammering away at the money being dangled in front of them makes them more competative, who knows.

Adore is charming but a mess, and yes, too young. Keeping her in the show means we’ll get the young/annoying/wannabes to continue to audition and bring an whiney conflict into the mix. More Gia’s and Laqangs. Freakin Great. Who can’t get enough of ‘This shit’s getting real!’ DUH.

Bianca is talented, almost too talented and experienced. And good god girl, that make-up. Do a little research and you’ll find she make some damn good coin already in NYC. And although no one want’s to miss out on $100K, it seems like the show would be better off having her as a mentor to the new queens ala Michele V. The one really nice thing Ru seems to do is take care of fan fav’s by keeping them employed and out hawking her name and brand – Pandora being the prime example.

Michele, who by the way if you’ve checked her blogs and twats, er tweets, has been trying to get her own show for the past few years. She’s a company girl who plays ball if it gets her what she wants. She’s the biggest critic in front of the camera but pulls a sweet, almost sickening attitude behind the scenes. In other words ‘It’s not my fault. I love them all’. Gag. Bianca would be so much better at this.

Then there’s Caught-In-The-Act. Clever no? NO. But she personifies the brand. I watch the show with my 10 year old niece who got me back into the fold after I quit during season 1 when Ongina was booted over Beebe. And although 10 years old, she hit the nail on the head when she said ‘why don’t’ they just give her a show back in Australia?’

She watch’s the poorly edited TV version, then while watching her after school while her mother works a late shift, we watch the downloaded un-cut version. Please, no criticism. She goes to Catholic school and told me all the ‘bleeped’ out words before we even started watching together (and in a side note she wants to be Ben for Halloween. Ben with a ‘meaty tuck’ that is. God bless her twisted little heart).

Anyway, it’s the same mindset as season one - who can enhance the brand? Ongian, although the more talented couldn’t draw in a foreign audience like an exotic African born queen can. Beside Ongian’s HIV status could possibly be a dividing force in foreign markets.

Too critical and harsh? YES. But that’s how producers think.

This isn’t a competition, it’s a business. A game the players know the rules to before the cameras even roll. So Caught-In-The-Act will be crowned. Not because she’s a fan favorite or the best but because she’ll sell tickets in foreign venues and more importantly, get RPDR on the air in more markets. Sissy That Walk gurl, for It’s all about the Benjamin’s.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 12: Sissy That Walk

David, that's not what Courtney was referring to. Courtney has already proven herself here in Australia and IS a drag superstar in Australia. However, she has had to prove herself in the USA, and by being crowned America's drag superstar, would give validation and reward for her extremely hard work and talent.

If you recall in one of the earlier episodes of Untucked, Courtney spoke about how she had a breakdown back home in Australia, and from then she made a conscious effort to approach life in a different light, which has made her what she is today. Yes, it's a shame she did not show that vulnerability onstage, and if she had, the judges would have seen Courtney in a different light and understood more her journey to who she is today. I have met Courtney (as both Courtney and Shane), and I have to say that she is a humble person that has refined her craft.

I will be looking forward to Adore and Bianca touring Australia, and I believe that Trinity will be here in the next few weeks. Guuurl she's got some moves!

I believe that the top three have an equal chance in winning. They each have their own unique flavour that shines. It will be a tough call and I will be sitting at the edge of my seat to see who is crowned America's next drag superstar!

The reunion is taping in L.A. today, not next week. It will air in two weeks when the queens will be in Las Vegas for the coronation party.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 12: Sissy That Walk

Wow, Miss Courtney totally blew it with that speech. Basically, she was so polished she didn't need this whole experience! According to her, the entire season was pointless as she should have been crowned before it started. This is now a two way race and a classic Eve Harrington scenario. I hope Bianca wins because Eve, er, Adore, is not ready. Here is my rant though: Santino's comment really got to me: Bianca might not be "good for the brand"?!? Dear Ru, Michelle, Santino & this quickly becoming formulaic to the point of tired show: though you claim the winner will be America's Next Drag Superstar-YOU DO NOT OWN DRAG. You are piggybacking on an old and wonderful tradition and you should be grateful and bow down to it daily since it pays your damn bills. So therefore it is not your "brand" and get over yourself.

Re: ““Game of Thrones” Season 4, Episode 5: First of His Name

David: I absolutely think that will happen. Likely at the end of this season. That plot element is too crucial to cut out, I think.

Willie: As for Coldhands, he may NOT be crucial. We honestly don't know, based on the books published thus far. His role has been basically to get Bran where he needs to go, and to give readers a bit of mystery/conspiracy-theory bait. I do hope he comes in sooner rather than later, as I find him interesting. But there's another character involved in that arc that I'm WAY more interested in seeing, especially after reading the "Dunk & Egg" stories.

Um I don't know if this is a spoiler free blog, but without saying too much, I wondered if you think Brienne is going to run into Lady you-know-who, like she does in the books?

Re: ““Game of Thrones” Season 4, Episode 5: First of His Name

Not that this should be taken as fact, but apparently some of the actors were asked and said that Coldhands isn't showing up in Bran's story at all in the show.

Obviously *if* he was they wouldn't announce it like that, so I'm still a bit hopeful, but we'll see.

I think Coldhands is coming. Right before Ghost killed Rast you heard all the ravens shrieking

Yes, really.

I'm surprised there was anything left to burn at Craster's Keep after all the scenery Gorman chewed.

A decent piece right up until describing Burn Gorman as, 'gratingly bad'. Really?

Re: “"Game of Thrones" Season 4, Episode 4: Oathkeeper

apparently HBO spoiled both the books and the show in a recap posted to their site this weekend, explaining exactly who the white walker we saw at the end was.

interesting read, and makes sense that the show would go that direction.

Thanks Eric. I've been waiting for your synopsis. Sorry Toronto misinformed you...let's blame it on Ford.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 10: Drag My Wedding

The show is very rehearsed and I have no problem with that. I believe it is all done to protect the queens' feelings. I think Ru tells the eliminated queen in private before it is announced on stage and the contestant rehearses his reaction. It's a very kind and collaborative way to run a reality contest show.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 10: Drag My Wedding

Wanted to point out 2 things: the season
6 queens seem so nice that I have been sad when each of them has left. And I enjoyed the twerk painting mini challenge this episode because it gave the queens a chance to exercise their art appreciation skills. Bianca did a great job with her Sister Wendy influenced analysis.

Re: “"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 6, Episode 11: Glitter Ball

Can you say – jumped the shark.

This is the same reason I stopped watching season 1 when Ongina was sent packing only to get caught up during the All Star competition.

So it comes to bad production decisions. Reality producers think that conflict and contrived controversy are what make game show, when in fact it’s sympathy and compassion, and how the viewer relates to the contestant, some call it humanity.

To keep someone who scored low 4 times and won a ‘head in the box’ challenge is not just confusing buy insulting to the shows fans and the other contestants.

God bless Ms. Lake, a big girl with talent and charm. Yet to keep her and discard if not dismiss someone who’s done better is degrading to the contestant and fans alike.

1) Bianca calling Ben a C#*t was incredibly vulgar, even for a drag queen. At the viewing party I was at there was the same audible gasp at that as there was at Ben’s elimination. And to make it worse was the judges laughing at it! This wasn’t some cabaret put down, it was pure back stage, back stabbing evil.

2) Michelle does a web series called ‘Whatcha Packin’, where she sweetly interviews the queens right before they go home. She’s as sweet as can be, well compared to her persona on the judging panel that is. How come none of that comes thru during the competition?

3) Michelle also states that she and Santino don’t get to see what goes on back stage and in the Untucked Lounge. A – I don’t believe a word of that, and B – Maybe they should.

4) In years past it was…”but do they have what it takes to be the next supermodel?” Now it’s…“there’s a $100K at stake, do they deserve it?” Yeah it’s a contest but that attitude skews the behavior of the contestants and apparently the judges.

5) Another week of Adore’s “This sh$t is getting real.” Yeah, duh.

And one more - What up with Moose Knuckle/Puppy Puss/Magda Gabor and her sailor suit? They can't be running low on judges already. Wouldn't a former show winner have more cred?

Re: “"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 6, Episode 11: Glitter Ball

I am EXTREMELY sad about this episode. I just couldn't believe it and still can't. As some of you pointed, each queen is a character and it's not fair or right to FORCE them into different personas every single week. All the challenges are themed and they're gonna deliver their own version of it. Darianne has the same kind of fabric since her first episode, as well as her looks, with only color switches and despite being shady has not shown much personality. Bianca is creative and talented but she's also "getting old", AS THEY ALL ARE. They have limited time and materials. Courtney ALWAYS gets the same critiques and Adore...I'm sorry, her walk, style and attitude that they keep praising is also repetitive with a plus that if Bianca hasn't helped her on quite some challenges, she'd be a total mess repeatedly as she was on episode 1. All of the queens hang on to their basic which means they should be judged by their proximity to the theme and the way hair, makeup, dress and attitude are served. Ben didn't deserve this bottom 2 and certainly did NOT deserve to sashay away. This show is dying for me. The editing is nasty and it's obvious Bianca is gonna win...altough ones by her side at top three won't deserve it.

Re: “"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 6, Episode 11: Glitter Ball

I can't believe Ben left!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!! Courtney does not belong! They keep saying how people need to be versatile and we only get one thing from Courtney. She is gorgeous but one sided and a bad attitude. Darian and Courtney need to go and BRING BACK BEN!!!

Re: “"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 6, Episode 11: Glitter Ball

Jessica: It's generally bad form in a lipsynch to remove a wig or shoes. First, it destroys the female illusion that is central to drag. Second, it also lowers the degree of difficulty significantly. For instance, in the Adore vs. Joslyn lipsynch, Adore pulled a move where she jump from her knees up to her feet. That is an impressive feat -- but as a drag queen, she should have been doing so while wearing high heels. (And S2 winner Tyra Sanchez DID do that move IN heels, and Ru pointedly said in the S2 reunion that that move is what cemented Tyra at the head of the pack for her. It is a very old-school drag-ball maneuver.)

The queens in S3 and S4 fell into a pattern of ripping off their wigs and shoes fairly frequently, and it became predictable and a sloppy. That has been toned down over the past few seasons. I don't know if Ru has ever explicitly said on the show that she expects the queens to keep their kit on during a performance, but she's definitely made statements to that effect outside the show.
