Dear Junderwater: It's on Thursday, May 2. Thank you for pointing out that we omitted that (extremely important!) piece of information. We hope you can join us!
On what DATE?
Thank you. :)
To the Edior,
It was with delight that I saw the listing for Dance Strasser in the City Paper. Dance Strasser, like Dance Hartwell (April 18-20, 7:30p), was student choreographed and performed. Like other adjudicated evenings of dance, what was presented on stage is only a sampling of the work being done in the Department of Dance at the College at Brockport. The listing followed just a page after Casey Carlsen's well-written preview piece on Vision of Sound, which included several Brockport dance alumni, so one has the sense that dance is taken seriously at the City Paper. That said, I feel compelled to comment.
While it is true that dancers have an advantage "over the average academic crowd," because they are artists and that is an advantage, the work they do is not easier than other academic disciplines, nor is it particularly stress relieving or simply a "work out." Artistic research takes many forms, some of it ends up on stage, some of it on the page. The choreography and performances take creativity, dedication, and discipline, just like other forms of serious study.
Please come join us for a concert this spring.
Maura Keefe, PhD
Chair, Department of Dance
The College at Brockport

I am not sure where this belongs, but I did want to let City Newspaper readers hear about the amazing play we saw/heard read at GEVA Theatre Center last night. Informed Consent by Deborah Zoe Laufer was done as a part of GEVA's Plays in Progress program, where artists have the opportunity to work at GEVA developing their work. This work has been "in progress" for quite some time and that definitely showed in the quality of the work. This play is entertaining and thought provoking at the same time. It deserves a wider audience and I hope that if Geva produces this play that Rochester will come out and sell it out! You will not be disappointed.
Thanks for including Bugzilla in your First Friday coverage!
That's *see Hollands.
You should also come Sw HOLLANDS perform at pomodoro on university ave from 6-9 pm. It's free. Listen here for a preview: http://www.soundcloud.com/hollandssssss
There's another Superhero in town, who's just for kids... Try Manner-Man by Sherrill S Cannon - This superhero teaches kids how to cope with bullies, and shows them ways to have consideration for others!!
We just saw this and found it absolutely riveting. Amazing performances - do not miss this!
Rebecca-- Thanks for listing this event. While I get plenty of coverage in other cities, it can be difficult to get press in Rochester-- not sure why. Much appreciated!
Hi Brandon,
Thanks for your post, but according to the Blue Cross Arena website as of now, the game is hosted in Rochester tonight:
