Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Results (Top 5 to Top 4)

OF COURSE I missed a Donna Summer medley. Of course. I am listening to "Bad Girls" right now in protest. Stupid VCR...

It really is a strong Final 4. I think Kree's B2 appearance will likely help kick her into the F2. Her fans have supported her consistently throughout the season, and the fact that she just started having trouble this close to the finale means that they'll be super energized the next few weeks. Plus, she'll absorb all of Janelle's country votes. So I am predicting a Kree/Candice F2 right now.

I did not watch Clay's original season. I started with S3. But personally I found him awkward and manic last night. That little bit between him and Ryan was so weird. "A lot sure has changed since then!" "I miss Reuben right now." Mmhmm. I do think they should do an all-stars season (I can't imagine Fox is not pushing for that right now, given the massive ratings slide this season), and Clay would be an obvious pick for it. At this point many of the contestants who had signed to labels have lost their representation. I imagine they'd have a pretty hearty roster of singers to pick from, and since you'd skip all of the initial auditions/semi-finals it could be markedly shorter than a regular season...

(@ Susan: New York State....just south of Lake Ontario )

Damn. I wanted to hear what you thought of the group number. I tease you not, they did compilation of Donna Summer's hits. Most curious to get your take on it.

Cute that Paula came on and lovely that Dolly Parton wrote the note. She would be awesome as a judge but she is such a big personality and dresser etc, it might be brutal for anybody trying to get attention away from her. Mind you, they've managed this season with Nikki and Mariah. & you are right, Mariah, really focused in this week and said some very sweet things without rambling.

Agreed with the voting public....Janelle was the one to go and she should not have been saved.

One last thing: This is such a strong Top Four and totally likable/adorable.

Was Clay really weird?

Eric---
Somehow I happened onto your blog (all the way from Seattle) a few weeks ago. Your rundowns are spot on -- more importantly - written with a keen sense of humor. Such fun. Where in the hec is Rochester anyway?

Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Songs from the Year they Were Born/Diva Songs

I think Amber is really a gem of a singer, but for whatever reason she is simply not garnering votes. Even with two very good performances last night I think she'll be in danger. The surprise for me would be Kree or Angie in the bottom along with Janelle. But we shall see!

Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Songs from the Year they Were Born/Diva Songs

I spent alot of time considering how Nikki contained her breasts. Quite the dress. Awesome make up. But, I digress:

Candice: She did a far better job of PA song than she did but I also thought it was too simple a song for her to choose at the point. The 2nd song, i wasn't familiar with but thought a fabulous vocal.

Janelle: I don't think she has any problem with confidence. I think she is a happy soul who loves Country. I actually preferred the first song but I think she is in the bottom this week and the judges will not use the save.

Angie: I have figured out what I think is her problem. She sounds better when she sings in her bottom register. When she sings higher she sounds like she is shrieking. I hated that she dedicated the song to Boston. Right. Ryan has already done that. Was this vote garnering? If so, it backfired on me. Also, I LOVE the Pretenders and she blew this song so badly. Just like she ruined that BB song last week. The second song was better.

Kree: I was surprised by the two song choices as well. I dont; think this was her best night but both showed a great vocal range and she has a lovely manner and should stay.

Amber: OMG.. Love her. I must say it was not Mariah Carey who made "Without You" famous. it was Harry Nilsson. At least MC said so....eventually. But it was the final song that I thought was astoundingly good and she was certainly the very best of the night. I loved her when she sang Funny Valentine and this was even better. Again, the best of the night BY FAR.

Janelle is going home. If Amber is in the bottom, I might have to start smoking.

Re: “"Game of Thrones" Season 3, Episode 3: Let's give the boy a hand

@ Curt & Eric: I think you both are making valid points about Rory McCann. He was markedly more menacing in Season 2 and just too mild in the last episode.

Re: “"Game of Thrones" Season 3, Episode 3: Let's give the boy a hand

I disagree with you about Rory McCann playing the Hound. He was particularly effective in Blackwater (Season 2 Ep 9), both in his encounter with Sansa in her chambers and with Joffrey and Tryrion in the battle. I'm not sure how much more "menacing" he can be than when he tells Sansa that "All men are killers..."

Is there a particular actor you believe who could do better?

Re: “"Game of Thrones" Season 3, Episode 3: Let's give the boy a hand

Thank you for the clarification on Podrick, folks. You're absolutely right. As soon as you mentioned that he's still with Brienne (well, so far as we know, as that story ended on a hell of a cliffhanger) the rest of Pod's journey snapped into focus in my mind.

Allanon, interesting tidbit about Martin instructing the show to change Melisandre. She's a fascinating character in both the books and the show, and personally I love her almost tragic irony. She is likely 100 percent right about her prophecy, and she's really trying to save the realm. She just bet on the wrong horse.

Re: “"Game of Thrones" Season 3, Episode 3: Let's give the boy a hand

Podrick Payne is still a major player. Patch Face was not cast or has not been listed as cast in any way. The producers said Melisandre's character has been altered under George Martin's instructions...

Hey Cathy, this is the first blog I've done for "Thrones." We added that and "Doctor Who" because, well, I wanted to. (The "Who" blog for the episode this weekend should be up first thing tomorrow; I was working Saturday night.) Glad you're following the blog!

Ok, stop the train. I haven't been paying attention and didn't realize you 'blogged' this show.' O Fraptious Day' etc

Kudos for remembering names and plots. Beyond me 'cept for a few faves.

In total agreement that I thought two scenes were beyond brilliant. The Small Council scene was so perfect. Love Tyrion. And then the post brothel moment between the Boys. And God Bless them for being concerned!

Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Results (Top 6 to Top 5)

I don;t doubt Producer Manipulation etc but I do think Lazaro got much much worse as the weeks wore on. His singing this week was so weak. His attitude or false bravado was grating. I also didn't like him talking over the judges,,I don;t care who you think you are....know your place. What I found particularly irksome was his attempts at blowing comments off. (last night he said he was laughing as he thought it was funny what someone had said as a criticism) I wondered if his speech impediment had affected his ability to hear himself..but he was much better and stronger earlier in the season than this week..

Thought Scotty was terrible. He sang far better during the competition.

Kelly rocked. Loved the song, Loved her. She is a breath of fresh air.

I feel for Amber as I think she is really strong. Hope producers are watching her as she is very talented. Hope you are right and Janelle goes next and save is used. Altho, if Janelle takes Jimmy's advice and reworks a song while playing the guitar, she could garner many votes. Angie is literally not even on my mind. Maybe she will sing something that finally clicks with me?

Finally: agree with above comment: Team Candice! & agree with you Eric: This has ended up developing into quite an interesting season and such strength for the final. Bring it on!

Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Results (Top 6 to Top 5)

I’m so relieved to see Lazaro finally go home. Nothing against him personally, but it would have been depressing to see anyone else left on the show get eliminated over him. I am definitely Team Candice at this point and I’m really excited to see her win this season. I’m actually never home to watch American Idol live anymore because I work the late shift at DISH during the week. My DISH Hopper always records it for me. It automatically tapes all the primetime shows on FOX every night, so I’ll be able to turn it on as soon as I get home.

Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Burt Bacharach/Songs the Idols Wish They'd Written

I loved the BB songs.
Judges: Mariah is a trip. She talks way too much & doesn't say anything. Good on Nikki for not even commenting on Lazaro.
Top 3 and the only people in this competition: Amber, Kree & Candice
Angie: I love this first song and she totally blew it. She couldn't come up with any emotion. I still don't get her...even on the piano. She doesn't strike me as being able to connect.
Janelle: sweet but totally out sung by the top women.
Lazaro: Absolutely terrible. Camera Crew must have been advised to refrain from crotch shots.
Totally agree about not liking that lilt on the end of notes with Kree.
Candice stole the show in every way.
If Lazaro still has his voting public (how could he?), tonight will be the night for the save. Don't think they would use it on Janelle but they would on Amber.

Re: “"American Idol" 2013: Results (Top 7 to Top 6)

I hope that America is smart enough to take out Lazaro before he takes out someone that actually has a shot at winning. Honestly, how many people would buy his album or buy tickets to his concerts? From what I can tell it’s a very limited number and my co-workers would say no one. I just feel like his story (which sometimes doesn’t seem to carry weight) and the sympathy he is getting should have run out by now. All of the legitimate performers in the competition are female and Lazaro doesn’t hold a candle to the rest of them. If he doesn’t get sent home this week or if the judges don’t use their save there are going to be some issues from here on out.
