Re: “Climate Change: Rochester's environmental record is mixed

If you're against fracking, then please don't even think about telling me that you care about global warming.

And if you place environmentalist superstitions and ideology above robust economic growth and the development of natural resources, then please don't even think about telling me that you care about the poor.

Re: “Climate Change: Rochester's environmental record is mixed

Typical evil Commie news rag. We have to become the Soviet Union to solve some now minor environmental problems. Get your heads out of your butts New York. Get rid of Andrew the terrible and his band of socialist freaks and rejoin the Free Interprise System that made your now sorry assed state once a great place to live and work.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 9: Talk Show, Balk Show

It should have been Joslyn vs Trinity or Adore. But let's be honest, y'all are gonna stop watching the show because of it? It's pretty obvious neither Trinity or Josyln has what it takes to win this thing anyway. I'm glad Trinity got to stay and show us more, but she had already been given a few extra chances. Saving her again after not getting Chaz's name right in an interview? No.

Re: “STAMP's location problem

Thank you for covering this, Jeremy. This textbook example of location inefficiency makes the RIT campus or Xerox Webster look brilliant by comparison. The people at GCEDC in Genesee County are on a huge and undeserved ego trip and the leaders of Rochester-Monroe have allowed the tail to wag the dog. The reasons given for building STAMP in remote Alabama are all easily refuted. No available cheap land in Monroe County? BS, ever been to Ogden? No cheap power and water in Monroe County? BS, all it takes is the Governor's signature. Chip fab plants need to be far from infrastructure that generates vibrations? Bullpucky - take a look at Intel in Hillsboro OR.

For the money we're throwing away on STAMP, we could have assembled a fine site in Monroe County, closer to the people, the homes, the schools, the services, and the infrastructure required to support such a large venture. Even in "success", this project will be an abject failure. It is emblematic of a community with no vision for its future.

Re: “STAMP's location problem

Not to mentioned, if 1000 news jobs are created (which I doubt) you will now need schools, fire, police, etc.. for over 1000 new people. I highly doubt the tax revenue generated will cover those costs. If this project was built at either Eastman Kodak site in Rochester or on a old brownfield in Buffalo, there is already all these services in place.

What do you call 32 years of 95% certainty that THE END IS NEAR? Anything you want it to be and a lazy copy and paste news editor's dream come true.

Re: “Climate Change: Rochester's environmental record is mixed

We here in Rochester hope to achieve something unique this year, a public discussion about Climate Change, the most important environmental crisis of our age. Please come to the Sierra Club’s 2014 Earth Day forum "Climate Smart Communities: Let’s Get With the Program” on Thursday, 2014.…

Mark Lowery, manager of the DEC’s Climate Smart Communities, will talk about Climate Change in our area and about the state’s program. We’ve invited many local municipality representatives to consider making the pledge, which will help communities in New York State address Climate Change. 10 reps have agreed to come. We’ll be talking on WXXI’s “Connections” tomorrow (Thursday, April 17th) at 1PM, 1370AM. But most of all, we will all talk with you, for an hour, about what Climate Change means for the Rochester area, with an expert. Please come; it’s hard to have a conversation about important stuff without, well… people.

Re: “Expanded services possible downtown

What if RDDC contracts with private service providers for what is described in the article? A trial season (summer) or year based on a budget from collected fees. If your neighborhood buys in more then you receive more services.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 9: Talk Show, Balk Show

It was clearly NOTHING BUT SHADE! Sending Trinity K home... Didnt understand why she was even there??? Yes she fucked that interview up but her runway look was EVERYTHING! And did way better then Ms. Fox, with her poor ass interview & "meaty tuck" lol... in reality it should have been Adore & Joslyn and thats where the shade lies because Trinity had no business being in the bottom two when Joslyn did worst then both of the queens put together! Im fuckin over Ru.. idk if im even going to continue watching, it was a disappointment and very uncalled for and clearly the show is fixed, smfh...

Re: “Democracy for sale

Citizens United did not do damage, it ended what was a blatantly anti-free speech law. The original purpose of so-called "campaign finance reform" was to restrict the ability of the National Rifle Association to run ads critical of politicians during campaigns. That was the stated goal, because Democrats then saw it as a way to get gun control-oriented politicians elected without the NRA being able to run ads critical of them.

What everyone forgets is that corporations are not just big companies, but a legal structure that is also used by a great deal of non-profits, such as the NRA. The NRA is a grassroots organization (it is not a front for gun manufacturers as many like to claim), and is a way for ordinary citizens to fight to protect their 2nd Amendment rights.

Thus, the idea that corporate political speech could be limited by laws was really a way to limit the free speech of regular citizens. The only way regular citizens can engage in speech on the same level as big companies is through forming organizations, often structured as corporations, that can raise money to spend on ads and fighting for the cause. The NRA does this regarding gun rights.

When Citizens United happened, many said that the Supreme Court may well have handed the presidency permanently over to the Republican party. We saw how well that went in 2012.

I am unsure regarding this current decision, and I don't believe there shouldn't be any laws regarding control of money in politics (for example unlimited donations to individual politicians), but not all legislation meant to control money in politics has been good, and if anything has been shown to do the opposite (such as the limitations placed via McCain-Feingold which Citizens United struck down which limited organizations like the NRA in terms of their ability to engage in political speech during campaigns).

For those that don't like the NRA, keep in mind it's the principle that is important, i.e. the ability of people, via grassroots organizations, to fight for causes and rights that they consider important. Other such issues can be LGBTQ rights, environmental issues, abortion rights, privacy rights, etc...

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 9: Talk Show, Balk Show

Honestly, my complaint, particularly in this episode, is the edit. Clearly they focused on Joslyn, who obviously bombed from what we saw. BUT, even Adore thought it was going to be between her and Trinity. The actual reactions that we do see seem to indicate that it really wasn't quite as horrendous as it was at the time. Hell, maybe the rest of her interview went pretty smoothly (if crude). To me, that means that the editing just got completely out of hand, emphasizing Joslyn's mistake because it was juicier for TV than the others.
And the drama in this Untucked episode was so ridiculously over-contrived.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 9: Talk Show, Balk Show

Trinity didn't put abortion or coming out of someone's private parts in her interview, which was totally disgusting by the way. She didn't say "Cool" when Cher's mother spoke about "The Depression"... There was so much bull going around on this episode it's pathetic. Yet Doo-Raul sends Trinity home. I'm done watching what I thought was the only show NOT tampered with.

Re: ““RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6, Episode 9: Talk Show, Balk Show

Trinity was totally robbed, I'm done with RPDR, something's fishy indeed. There was no way she should have been put up last night. Others screwed up the challenge and runway but still were safe? Trinity messed up the interview but rocked the runway flawless, yet was put up for elimination and sent home? PLEASE! Half of them weren't even dam animals, one said she was a panther mixed with a Mortal Combat character... WTF! Shouldn't you be able to tell what animal it was as they came out. How many had to explain what the hell they were? TRINITY WAS ROBBED! Rupaul and his drag race is obviously fixed.

Another fee? I already pay association fees for my condo. How much is this fee going to be and why don't my taxes already cover this?

Re: “Film Review: "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"

Also, I wish CITY would allow another reviewer to tackle comic book hero movies, just for a change. Especially, considering this writer has demonstrated his disdain for them, and their audience, time after time.

Based on his wrap up of both his assumptions of the intended audience for both comic books and this movie (the tired jab about 15 year old boys), he's clearly not up to date with either the movie genre or the source material and the diversity of people who enjoy both.

Our mistake. The mixing engineer The Heroic Enthusiasts contact was *Mick Guzauski,* a Rochester native who worked on Daft Punk's latest album "Random Access Memories."
