While the Roman Catholic hierarchy continues to keep its head buried in the sand by refusing to even discuss women's ordination to the RC priesthood, women are not waiting. They are finding bishops to ordain them. So while the Church (the people) support women's ordination, the hierarchy continues to blame Jesus Christ for their sexism insisting that women can't be priests because Jesus chose 12 apostles. Who said this? Who made these biblical interpretations? Men, men, men! And we're all supposed to accept this? The 1976 Pontifical Biblical Commission concluded there was no biblical basis for the exclusion of women from the priesthood. As soon as the Vatican learned this, they squelched this Commission, but the results leaked out to the Public. The deliberate exclusion of women from the priesthood sends the message to RC women and society in general that women are inferior to men. Both men and women are worthy to consecrate the body and blood of Christ and should be allowed the privilege to fulfill their God given calling. Grassroots Catholics in the pews will be the agents of change and reform whether they are working inside or outside of the Church in deliberate fashion and/or by simply by living out the Gospel of Jesus and being role models for the future Church, showing what the Church can and should be.... a loving and inclusive Church. The consequences if we don't work to reform the Church in whichever way works for each of us Catholics is too great for all women in all male dominated religions of all faiths and in society as a whole. The RC Church remains one of the oldest and largest all-male bastions of sexism in the world that influences the lives of women in the Church and in society. Thank you, Myra, for your ministry at Spiritus Christi and in the Rochester community. The work you do is far-reaching and I wish you many blessings in your new journey as priest.
