Rochester has a housing issue from homeless, to affordable living, and on and on. There is a lack of innovation going on. A homeless village where it was set to be a skate park at one time is absurd. This location is ideal for a skate park yet such is dashed. The subway used to house the homeless but not its an urban tour destination that still lays undeveloped. There is a lot of undeveloped and under developed in the city. Then there is the fill in of the inner loop instead of doing a tunnel as Boston and other cities have done.
Rochester is a hot mess... Yet we have resources we should turn to. Like Cornell University and other Colleges that have architectural programs could easily solve homeless housing. Forget Pike and the construction firms we have who want huge profits. Lets turn to students and professors to develop housing and to rezone Rochester. We have homes filled with asbestos, lead paint, inefficient mechanicals, and are out dated. Lets get rid of such. Bring in RIT students and professors to collaborate with other Universities to provide diverse efficient and innovative housing for our City. With the understanding that we need to coexist with the Diversity we have. Neighborhoods that are a solar co op as is in DC and other cities, linked into a Geothermal co op, metal roofing and hardie board siding so that fires don't spread house to house, and such other innovations to make living affordable. This way we can have resources to share with homeless shelter co op style housing. Tiny homes and small homes are in now and we as a community should pioneer this by taking down abandoned housing stock to build tiny and small home communities where less is more. Build brownstone and row housing for middle class families. Build condo's and Townhomes for empty nesters. Revive neighborhoods via culture centers. Such as lil havana, chinatown, and such so that heritage can be built, explored, and enjoyed. Repurpose old factories or tear them down and rebuild. Build up our water front properties for high end housing so we have tax income coming in. Issue permits so we can have street vendors, street performers, and street exhibits so that jobs are created and to attract people downtown or into cultural neighborhoods.
Also transition employment to be flexible so that part time jobs offer health care or dental and vision so that people can be offered 2 part time jobs where one offers health and the other offers dental and vision so that there is diversity of employment options beyond full time shift work or 9 to 5, 8 to 4, 7 to 3 full time day shifts. So this way we have neighborhoods alive with people being able to securely afford a home and to invest in their home.
Neighborhoods with schools, parks, shopping, and such in walking distance... infrastructure for every neighborhood. Festivals, block parties, and such community events that is meant for the community to come together and not to draw in tourism as park ave and corn hill festivals are. Make housing affordable and break away from slum lords who are from california or some other state who don't care about community. The City allowing this is what has destroyed our City. Lets set our city as one tolerant of each other be ye homeless, a struggling college student, young professional, empty nester, disabled, or what ever. That the city is the place to flock to to start home ownership be it starter home, homeless housing, family housing, empty nester housing, and such. If we fail we will be more like detroit. If we area success then we will grow. It is a risk we need to take.
Lovely is going to send Rochester the way Detroit has gone. She is going to squander city coffer's on her own narcissistic agenda to be famous. She doesn't care about ethics. She is about taking credit for herself and not being accountable for her mistakes. If a mistake is made she wants to sweap it under a weave and not deal with it until it can no longer be ignored and then she will point the finger. Her ya know bla bla bla ya know might warm the hearts of her un and under educated voters. Her buying her Lafamilia SUV's to her around in might draw a tear to her voters eyes who have gotten family members jobs at Kodak and such. Yet the lets give em work cause they are family is part of what tanked companies in Rochester! Why take school seriously when your family holds a spot for you at a company. Companies need a better pool of qualified workers these days. The days of family getting family a job is over. Yet Lovely fails to see that such has corrupted companies here to either leave town or downsize to weed out the unqualified workers. She wants to enforce the urban dictionary and try to bring in ghetto justice politics. Yet we have Sudan refugees and they can tell you such doesn't work. She plays the victim to get what she wants... Yep she said she was threatened but no proof. She plays the child... Ignores the mistake she made and hopes you will just go away and forget. Look she put her nose in and held up college town because she needed her mark on it something she could boast about. Now she has done it with Costco and other projects that were in the works by others way before she was mayor. Yet she put her mark on it so she could be famous in her mind. She is narcissistic and she will tank Rochester.
The City needs innovation and to recreate itself. It needs to work with the county to make downtown a hub for buisness and culture! Housing stock needs to be revamped. Houses need to be torn down but not to be replaced with cookie cutter hud homes... there needs to be architecture involved to define neighborhoods. You need to spend money inorder to make money! Investments need to be made aswell as commitments. Rochester needs to attract buisness and also ensure it can retain the buisness we have allready! Midtown was innovation that Rochester allowed to die! The Canal thru downtown was innovation that Rochester allowed to die! instead of looking ahead Rochester wallows in the muck and there is no hope or prosparity to be seen! We had big things come here once from Elvis to Metallica and such but now we are passed up! We depended too much on Kodak and Xerox and Baush and Lomb that we passed on up and comming companies! So we don't need to just make the Budget we need to overfill the Budget with Money so that we can rebuild Rochester!!! We need street meat downtown be it vendor cart or food truck... we need name brand stores and resturants... we need buisness's... we need diversity so that downtown becomes a work, eat, shop, be entertained, and live here epicenter... were it is 24/7 activity for all those who work from the people who work shift work to the lawyer who is up late reviewing a case and wants to unwind once he leaves his office... a down town where you can walk, skate, bike, and stop and see local art... stop and see people! then build around downtown neighborhoods that have a pulse that represent the best in urban living that is convienance to walking distance to things. Wegmans is great but it has killed the mom and pop markets in the villages in the burbs and Rochester has also suffered from the lack of diversity wegmans has created due to it's convienance! Yes East Ave Wegmans yippi but what of the west side? Innovation to create Jobs... innovation to create security... innovation to bring Rochester to be known to be innovative!
