Another big problems with low wage jobs, especially in food service area is the on demand scheduling. For example one place I work doesn't post the weeks schedule until Thursday for the week which begins on Saturday. That leaves no time to plan for childcare, family events etc. if you never know if you are working the weekend and what hours until 2 days prior to the weekend. I have complained but was told the law doesn't apply to food service workers. There are many studies which prove on demand scheduling is very stressful for workers. The NY Dept of Justice has gone after the big retailers like Target, Walmart etc for this but there seems to be no help for us food service workers.
