Bello was Irondequoit supervisor for two years and two and 1/2 months, Jan. 1, 2016 to March 16, 2018. In 2014 the population of Irondequoit was 51,191, By 2016 it had fallen to 50,544. Amazing how Bello, and Bello alone, managed to drive those 647 people out of town.
George Payne - You believe that St, John Fisher should be held responsible for the conduct of its students. But the best you can come up with to support that belief is that they accepted these kids' applications? That's not just a stretch, it's a huge overreach of logic. There is simply no connection that can be supported rationally. But I suspect you will keep trying to do so, reality notwithstanding.
George Payne's analysis of the situation seems to have several gaping holes in it. Any attempt to link the act of vandalism committed by these two young men, drunk or sober, racist or not, to the policies of Fisher is a logical gap too wide to be bridged. That George has a personal, and personnel, problem with Fisher has evidently colored his judgment to the extent that he blames the school for actions of its students over which it can have no possible control or influence. What ever racial baggage they now carry they brought with them when they entered the school. Additionally, George makes clear that he believes that racial animosity motivated this vandalism when he states that, " Whether they knew about him (Douglass) or not, to them, in their drunken stupor, he was just another black person." Neither he nor what the thought processes, if any, were of two drunken rowdies when they stole the Douglas statue. Neither he nor I are in a position to cast the first racial stone. At this point in time and with the information currently available, all opinions of the event are equally valid, or invalid.
Mr. East, it's amusing that , given how New York taxpayers must subsidize the Red States (we get back only $.84 for each dollar sent to the federal government. A short fall for FY2016 of $41 BILLION dollars) you spend your time fixating on the buck or two a year that each American pays to support public TV and radio. That's not even enough for you to buy a new MAGA cap.
Ms. Towler - Im sorry, but your free speech justification for running that hunting ad doesnt wash. Were not talking about an advertisement for traditional goods or services, or even such fringe products as tobacco, alcohol or firearms, but rather the sheer, unadulterated barbarity of offering any schadenfreudenist hunter with 1500 bucks the ability to come to ones property and engage in the sport of shooting down a defenseless animal, and one that appears to be part of a rare breed at that. Perhaps you should have a talk with the editor of the RBJ to see how he feels about having allowed his paper to override common decency and common sense in the name of an overly-strict interpretation of the First Amendment. It would have been far more believable, and understandable (although still not acceptable) had you simply stated that your paper needs the money and so has to take what advertising it can get.
What a surprise. A report commissioned by backers of a new mega-theater from an arts and entertainment CONsulting firm supports the idea that the theater will be a positive for the community. I wonder when the last time was that these CONsultants issued a study that told those paying for the study something other than what they wanted to hear?
I seem to recall that the city and CATS commissioned studies which concluded that a ferry between Rochester and Toronto would be a great idea.
Re: “Our national emergency”
Congratulations Cupid. You managed to drag in just about every cliche utilized by Trump and his Deplorables over the past two years. As to why Donny went to Texas, it certainly wasn't to listen to anyone but himself. The only person he's every listened to as his actions have made clear.
