Four local male artists broaden traditional stereotypes of "crafts"
            by Rebecca Rafferty
If the term "craft fair" brings up imagery of all things sweet, delicate, and pretty, with hair clips, jewelry, knittery, and journals, think again. While it may be true that the local-focusing craft markets have been mini-femme fests, lately there has been an increase in male artists mixed in with the gals.…

Lovely Warren officially launched her bid for mayor today. WATCH VIDEO
            by Christine Carrie Fien
Not that this was a campaign in search of a narrative,
but if there was any doubt, it was settled this
morning by Lovely Warren's choice of settings to launch her mayoral campaign:
the Fight Village Apartments on Ward Street in northeast Rochester -- one block,
Warren pointed out, from the flashpoint of the city's race riots in the 1960's.It's clear that there are segments of the community who
feel left out of the conversation when officials talk about Rochester's
economic recovery and revitalization. It's also clear that City Council
President Lovely Warren has been planning this bid for some time: there were
signs, a banner, literature, and a campaign-style video playing at this morning's
press conference.…

The crazy and kooky Professor E. Gadd calls again for Luigi's aid, equipping him with the Poltergust 5000 (an upgrade from the previous titles’ Poltergust 3000), which allows him to stun, chase, and vacuum up the tricksy ghosts that are terrorizing the valley.

Two hundred and twenty six. That’s how many times I started up “Fire Emblem: Awakening” before I beat it. Two hundred and twenty six different times, with an average play time of 10 minutes before I hit the power button and started over again. Across the 40 and a half hour adventure, that’s a lot of resetting. The game now sits at third place (only behind the Mii Plaza and the Notifications menu) among my most frequently opened 3DS titles.

It looks like Nintendo has listened.

A much more apologetic Satoru Iwata led off today's Nintendo Direct presentation, and in the first chunk of the presentation gave a lot of good news on small, but important fixes to the overall Wii U experience. The Wii U virtual console is coming (with GamePad, Miiverse support), as are two system updated that will fix the load times of the system. Game Boy Advance titles are coming to the service as well, but sadly there was no mention of GameCube games. Miiverse will also be branching out, coming to smartphones sometime in the Spring.

First it had it. Then it didn't have it. Then it had it again. Whatever the mix up was, it turns out that, yes, in fact, the upcoming Nintendo 3DS title "Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon" does have multiplayer, and it looks pretty cool.

I watched the first episode with the master of Idol ceremonies himself, but tonight, the show headed to Chicago, the windy city, for the judges to be blown away(Oh come on Idol, that's the best you can do?).…

“Little Inferno” is a tricky game to review.

Not because I didn’t enjoy it-in fact, the opposite-but because it’s hard to say exactly what the game is. It’s somewhat the antithesis of a sand box game: Normally developers give players the tools to create a world. “Little Inferno” gives you the tools to burn that world down.

The weirder, crazier, and goofier side of holiday music
            by Adam Lubitow
There's no surer sign that the holiday season is upon us than the inescapable barrage of popular Christmas music saturating the airwaves. The worst part isn't that most of the songs sound the same (artists often seem afraid to mess with what's already proven successful), but that the end product inevitably feels...safe.…

It's been quite some time since "South Park" has done a Halloween episode: "Hell on Earth 2006" was the last time the show celebrated the holiday (and caused waves of controversy over a was-it-too-soon-or-not Steve Irwin joke), and it's about time the show returned to some Halloween themed hoodwinks.
…

Lemony Snicket, and his, well, representative, Daniel Handler, is probably my favorite modern author. From the gateway drug into black comedy that was his "Series of Unfortunate Events," to the equally funny-as-it-is disturbing full on dark comedy onslaught that is "The Basic Eight" (and also yeah, where my band currently draws its name from), his ability to wring laughter in the bleakest of situations and capture a variety of narrative voices has always attracted me, and now, almost 6 years to the date of the last book in the series, "The End," Handler returns to Snicket's world with the "All The Wrong Questions" series, starting with the first volume, "Who Could That Be at This Hour?".…

After two back-to-back strong episodes of "South Park," social commentary was high, but laughs were low this week, even to the point where pulling in Bane from Batman couldn't save the show.
…

Port St. Willow opened with a sophisticated, although sometimes sloppy, set of space rock.…

I kicked off day three of my Fringe experience with Auburn native The Great Chernesky at Java's. There was a certain woodsy panache to his whole shtick, and I'd hate to call the music he plays -- no, actually; he gives birth to it -- as country, as the term calls to mind current music that doesn't sound anything like Chernesky.…
