If you've ever watched shows like "Justified," "Sons of Anarchy," or "Preacher," there's a certain aesthetic of music that might immediately come to mind. It's a down and dirty brand of blues-rock, and Julie Rhodes embodies all that is wonderful about that genre. Rhodes has the grit in her voice that makes her absolutely authentic and believable, and the melodies she weaves are mournful and dark. Her backing band follows suit with slide guitars, stomps, and rollicking drums and violins conjure images straight out of a modern Western.
Julie Rhodes performs with the Jon Lewis Band on Saturday, July 30, at the Sticky Lips Juke Joint, 830 Jefferson Road. 9:30 p.m. No cover. stickylipsbbq.com; facebook.com/julierhodesmusic.
