The Genesee Chorale — led by its Music Director Ric Jones — will perform Carl Orff's choral epic, "Carmina Burana," along with the ubiquitous song "O Fortuna," this Friday. While the Rochester Oratorio Society performed Orff's 20th century masterpiece with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra last June, Jones and company will collaborate with pianists Doug Hanson and Howard Spindler in a more intimate version at Eastman School of Music's Kilbourn Hall. Soprano Emily Helenbrook, tenor John Clayton, and baritone Joseph Finetti round out the lineup as soloists. "Carmina Burana" is ideal for springtime: a secular cantata full of devil-may-care revelry and amorous exploits once the season has changed and spring has bloomed.
The Genesee Chorale will present "Carmina Burana" on Friday, April 22, at Eastman School of Music's Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs Street. 7 p.m. $12-$15. The concert will be repeated Friday, April 29, at St. James Episcopal in Batavia. eastmantheatre.org; geneseechorale.com.
