Political relations between the United States and Russia may be complicated, but the enduring musical bond between the two countries is unequivocally vibrant. The bond extends to Rochester and its Sister City, Veliky Novgorod (composer Sergei Rachmaninoff was born nearby). In celebration of this connection, teachers and students from the Eastman Community Music School will perform a free concert on Wednesday at Kilbourn Hall. The program will be filled to the brim with works by such Russian compositional greats as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Reinhold Glière, Alexander Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Igor Stravinsky, and more. Featured performers include cellist Jackie Hager, guitarist David Steinhardt, pianists Alla Kuznetsov and Howard Spindler, and vocalists Joe Finetti, Natalia Hulce, and Yvonne Trobe.
The Eastman Community Music School concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, at Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs Street. Free and open to the public. esm.rochester.edu.
