The Mount Hope World Singers not only perform indigenous folk music from all over the world, they sing each song in its original language. The group, founded in 2013, will play host on Friday to the New Bethel CME Church choir in a collaborative spring concert called "Together We Stand." The Mount Hope World Singers, under Allison Thorp, will perform songs from Zambia and Tanzania, a Sufi melody, and an arrangement of a song written by an anonymous Jewish concentration camp prisoner. Led by Patrick Crumity, the New Bethel CME Choir will sing several traditional gospel songs, and then the choirs will combine for several more numbers including the South African freedom song "Tshotsholoza." Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
Mount Hope World Singers and New Bethel CME Church choir will perform "Together We Stand" on Friday, June 3, at Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs Street. 7:30 p.m. Free. mounthopeworldsingers.org.
