Trombones and chamber music may not seem to be natural fit, but First Unitarian Church's "First Muse" series will prove differently with this concert. It may be called "Two Trombonists Walk into a Bar," but it's no joke: Eastman School Professor Larry Zalkind and Mark Kellogg (who is also RPO principal trombone) with be joined by pianist Priscilla Yuen for an evening of original music and arrangements for one or two trombones and piano, by such composers as Bartók, Dvoràk, Beethoven, and Astor Piazzolla. A post-concert reception will be hosted by the First Unitarian Church's Honduras Task Force, which will receive 25 percent of the concert's ticket revenue.
First Muse presents "Two Trombonist Walk into a Bar" on Sunday, January 24, at First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road. 7:30 p.m. $5-$10. firstmuse.org.
