LITERATURE: Learn about creating settings that have a real presence at "Cities as Supporting Characters," a talk with authors Bill Peters and Nathan Larson to be held tonight at 7 p.m. at Writers & Books (740 University Ave.). The cost to attend is $3-$4; for more information, visit wab.org.

THEATER: 'Tis the season: "44 Plays for 44 Presidents," a comical and non-partisan look at the lives of the 44 Commanders-in-Chief who have run this country, plays at 7 p.m. tonight at Geva Theatre (75 Woodbury Blvd.). MUSIC: Don't be green with envy that everyone else is out having a good time tonight and you're stuck at home. Head on down to Lemoncello (137 W. Commercial St., East Rochester, lemoncello137.com) to check out the Jon Green Jazz Trio. The music is free, show starts at 6 p.m., but why don't you grab some dinner and make a whole night out of it?
MUSIC: Looking for some south-of-the-border grub and music ready to blast you off? How about making your way down to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (99 Court St., dinosaurbarbque.com) and get ready to take in the jam rock of Count Blastula. The show is free, starts at 9 p.m., and hey, you can get some good ribs out of it, too.
MUSIC: With her percussive, finger-style attack and lonesome wail, the now 62-year-old Rory Block has remained true to the sound and visceral energy of blues and folk, incorporating her own story and femininity for added fire and intensity. Block burns blue, and you will too. Check her out tonight at the Stuart Steiner Theatre at Genesee Community College (1 College Road, Batavia, genesee.edu) at 7:30 p.m., only $5-$10.
MUSIC: A true love story of two star-crossed lovers who met through their music, Elenowen will be playing tonight at St. John Fisher College (Campus Center Mainstage, 3690 East Ave., sjfc.edu).
