Film: New movies opening tonight in wide release include “Dark Skies,” and “Snitch.” Films opening this week at the Little Theatre include “Azure & Asmar,” “Beware, Mr. Baker,” “The Central Park Five,” “The Powerbroker: Whitney Young’s Fight for Civil Rights,” “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap,” and “Sound City.” Head here for full movie times.

Furry Friday will take place tonight, and dressing up isn’t necessary, but feel welcome to come dressed as your favorite fur covered animal. Starts at 10:15 p.m. and runs until 3 a.m.

Conference: St. John Fisher College (3690 East Ave.) will host a conference today, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., on “Frederick Douglass in Ireland: The Irish Influence on America’s Greatest Abolitionist and Its Continuing Relevance." The event is free to attend. For more information, visit sjfc.edu.

Music: Where in the world is Alberto Alaska? On Friday evening, you can catch this wintry five-piece at its “True North” EP release party at Lovin’ Cup. The Fredonia/Rochester-based group creates a meltdown of atmosphericand progressive styles that’s typical of the post-rock genre. Alberto Alaska is a young band that can build a song into a hazy climax and burn it with a mid-tempo groove. The guitars, the rhythm section, the vocals, and the harmonies add to the ambience. This band is neither hard nor heavy nor wrong. It’s like a wall-of-sound with chops on the side.
