SPECIAL EVENT: Celebrate Chanukah in Pittsford for the Grand Public Menorah Lighting at 6 p.m. Carry on the tradition of Tikkun Olam (“repairing the world”) by donating canned food items that will be created into a giant menorah, then donated to the Pittsford Food Cupboard. MUSIC: Time for the lowest of the low to shine: Tonight don’t miss the Tuba Mirum Holiday concert in the Ciminelli Formal Lounge (Eastman School of Music Student Living Center, 100 Gibbs St., esm.rochester.edu). The brassy good times start at 5:50 p.m., and are free.

LECTURE: Honor “Human Rights Day in Rochester” at the Downtown United Presbyterian Church. 5 p.m. potluck, 7 p.m. program begins. Dr. Marvin McMickle will give the keynote address. Join in a community conversation focused on Michelle Alexander’s best-selling book, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.” 121 N. Fitzhugh St. 325-4000.

MUSIC: Your ticket to good times isn’t anywhere near expiration, and even if they aren’t what made Milwaukee famous don’t miss Milwaukee based hardcore outfit Expire tonight at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com). Doors open at 7 p.m., tickets run $10-$12. Malfunction , VICE, Forked Tongues, and Night Terror kick things off, and the Manic Monday Dance Night takes over after the band at 11:30 p.m.

THEATER: Help launch the first Hornet’s Nest of the year at “Next Fall.” Script-in-hand performance and conversation with community leaders of a play dealing with the struggles of a deeply religious, gay man by taking a witty look at faith through the five year relationship of Adam and Luke. 7 p.m. Free. ART: Rather than scrambling to see the cutting-edge, take a look at the art of the past at St. John Fisher College Patricia O’Keefe Ross Art Gallery’s “The Rochester Art Club: A Retrospective Exhibit.” The exhibit honors works by Warren Aldoretta, Emilee Higbie, Robert Keim, and other deceased Rochester Art Club members.
