Daily Choices: What to do on Monday, January 7 

MUSIC: It’s that time of the year again fellow Rochesterians. Time to practice your favorite songs, tune up the vocal chords, and get ready to belt it out. Lovin’ Cup Idol (300 Park Point Dr., lovincup.com) starts tonight with the first round of auditions. Want to join? Be prepared to sing up to 3 songs a capella for the judges. Runs every Monday in January, 8 p.m. (sign up earlier to compete, though!).

ART: Check out the work of “Four Artists” today, at a new exhibit at Arts & Cultural Council (277 N. Goodman St.) which includes pieces by Eran David P. Hanlon, Pepsy M. Kettavong, Woody Packard, and William F. Sellers. The gallery is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and continues through Jan 25. MUSIC: Perhaps the group should be nominated for longest band title: The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die will be coming to town tonight, playing at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com), bringing local groups Silverfish and Left at Home along for the show. Music starts at 8:30 p.m., tickets run $7-$9, and as always, Manic Monday Retro Dance night follows the bands at 11 p.m.

RECREATION: Brush off your case of the Mondays with a trip to Manhattan Square park Ice Rink, which is open 12-1:30 p.m. and 1:50-3:20 p.m. today. Adults only skating takes place 3:40-5:10 p.m., and 5:30-7 p.m. For more information, call 428-7541.

LECTURE: Wickham Farms CSA will hold an informational session on Community Supported Agriculture today at 7 p.m. at Penfield Public Library (1985 Baird Rd.). The session is free to attend; for more info, call 340-8720.

KIDS: Bring the wee ones to the National Museum of Play at The Strong (1 Manhattan Square) for classic nursery rhymes, music, and movement activities at the Toddler Book Club. The event takes place at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Admission is $13 to ages 2 and older, and free to kids under 2 and members, and includes admission to the museum.
