MUSIC: Full bill of local Rochester and Syracuse bands up to bat tonight at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com), featuring The Setbacks, Destroy Nate Allen, Dance The Hempen Jig, Envious Disguise, and Mouth Full. Music starts at 8:30 p.m., and at only $5-$7, this show isn’t going to set you back that much, so check it out. COMEDY: Support local comedians at the Laughin' Cup 2012 Finals, held tonight, at 8 p.m. at Lovin' Cup (300 Park Point Dr.). Admission is free, and the show features the top 8-10 finishers from the preliminary rounds who will compete for the title of 2012 Laughin' Cup Champion. MUSIC: All you metal fans and hardcore rockers out there, don’t miss the Hatewear Tour 2012 coming through town tonight at the Montage Music Hall (50 Chestnut Plaza, themontagemusichall.com, frontgatetickets.com). You’ll get a chance to check out Straight Line Stitch, Dead By Wednesday, and Defiler on this packed bill. Doors open up at 7 p.m., tickets cost $8. KIDS: Take the tykes to see “Magic and Mr. J” at Brighton Memorial Library (2300 Elmwood Ave.) today, 10:30 a.m. The show is free and open to all ages, but registration is required. RECREATION: The Second Annual Stars and Stripes VeteRun 5K will take place today, 11 a.m., at Stewart Lodge in Mendon Ponds Park (Douglas Rd.). MUSIC: Looking for a good open mic to check out tonight? If you want to play and sing yourself, or just wanted to check out the other brave souls who do, head on down to Johnny’s (1382 Culver Rd., johnnysirishpub.com) tonight for an open mic sessions hosted by none other than Dave McGrath. Music starts at 7 p.m. and is free. LITERATURE: Ken Waldman, “Alaska’s Fiddling Poet” will perform tonight, 7 p.m. at Writers and Books (740 University Ave.) Admission is $3-$4. MUSIC: Minneapolis based rock band Grayshot will be stopping in to Boulder Coffee (100 Alexander St., bouldercoffeeco.com) tonight at 7 p.m., for a free show, so stop out and show them a warm Rochester welcome. Or if it’s cold out you can grab some coffee and warm up AND give the band a warm welcome. It might help you kill two birds with one shot…or stone.
