Daily Choices: What to do on Monday, October 8

KIDS: The kids are out of school today and the weather’s not treating us so nicely. Take the kids over to The Strong National Museum of Play (1 Manhattan Square) for eGame Revolution Day, which takes place 11 a.m.-4 p.m. today. Admission is $11-$13, and there are enough activities to keep ‘em busy for a long spell. More info: 263-2700, museumofplay.org.

ART: It’s a gorge-ous time to see Ithaca, and today is the final day of the annual Letchworth Arts & Crafts Show & Sale, which takes place at Letchworth State Park in Castile, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free, but there is an $8 per car parking fee. For more information, call 493-3600, or visit artswyco.org.

LIT/FILM: Take in a free screening of the classic film, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," tonight, 7 p.m., at Writers and Books (740 University Ave.). The film is being show as part of the "Beyond Reading: The Boys on the Bus" programming. For more information, call 473-2590 x104, or visit wab.org.

ART: Go see "Golden Age," a showcase of Neal McDannel's remarkable lithograph, pastel, and pencil portraits, at the Gallery at Equal=Grounds (750 South Ave.). Today’s hours are 7 a.m. to midnight today. The show will remain on view through the month of October. For more info, email gallery@equalgrounds.com.

MUSIC: A band, or team name, says something about the group of people who put it together. My high school bowling league, the Better Kings of Bowling, was full of a bunch of smart-asses who thought we were better than the reigning champion team (The Kings of Bowling) but really weren’t. King Orchid, on the other hand, is something a little more royal: the rock duo from Boston will be playing tonight at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com), music starting at 8:30, cover a measly $6-$8. Check out why it thinks they hold the crown of the orchids.

MUSIC: Name dropping is a double edged sword for musicians: Why just list off a bunch of people you have played instead of just talking about things you’ve done yourself? Well, sometimes it works out, and that’s the case for Gregg Inhofer, who has recorded with Bob Dylan, toured with Olivia Newton-John, but can sit on his own achievements, being a member of the Minnesota Rock and Country Music Hall of Fame and all. Check him out at Boulder (100 Alexander St., bouldercoffeeco.com) at 8 tonight for a free journey into his musical world.

MUSIC: It may have been Fievel’s destiny to always head west, but you don’t have to travel far to check out local jazz band the Westview Project, right here in town tonight at Horizon’s Restaurant at Woodcliff Hotel & Spa. (199 Woodcliff Dr., Fairport, woodcliffhotelspa.com). Music is free and starts at 5:30, so use the lovely holiday off to grab a spa, some dinner, and some live jazz.
