Daily Choices: What to do on Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21 

SPECIAL EVENT: The 2nd annual Buccaneers' Ball will take place Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at Rochester Airport Marriott Hotel (1890 Ridge Road West). The 21+ event features casino-style gambling, grazing stations, music, dancing, prizes for best costumes, and raffles and auction items. MUSIC: Dress to the nines and clip on those bowties, Rochester's own The Bowties will be bringing its brand of a cappella to Lovin Cup (300 Park Point Dr., lovincup, $5) Saturday night with a CD release party. Doors open up at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m., which gives you time to grab some of Lovin Cup's wonderful food, and the $5 admission also goes toward the new disc.

SPECIAL EVENT: Celebrate amateur movie making with Home Movie Day, which takes place in the Hawkins-Carlson room at Rush Rhees Library (University of Rochester, River Campus) on Saturday noon-4 p.m. The event is free to attend, and will feature 16mm, 8mm, Super8, and VHS works provided by Rochester residents. MUSIC: Ithaca-based triple threat (roots/rock/reggae) the Sim Redmond Band will be playing Saturday night at Water Street Music Hall (204 N. Water St., waterstreetmusic.com). The band will also bring Ithaca mates The Gunpoets. If you want to get down grooving and jamming, this is the place to be. Music starts at 9 p.m., tickets run $10-$12.

FESTIVAL: The Sierra Club will host a Halloween Fun and Fall Festival Saturday starting at 5 p.m. The event takes place at King's Bend Park (170 West Jefferson Road, Pittsford), and will feature a scavenger hunt for hidden Antarctic animals and birds, a prize for the best Antarctic animal/bird costume, and a slide show of the amazing scenery and wildlife by naturalist Peter Debes, who traveled to the Antarctic peninsula last March. MUSIC: Saturday night is also songwriter night, with Brian Coughlin's Songwriters in the Round Series hitting Tango Café (389 Gregory St., tangocafedance.com, $8). This show will feature the likes of Tom Smith, Nick Young, and of course, Coughlin himself, all for just $8. Music starts at 8 p.m.

MUSIC: Take in two back-to-back concerts to give you that weekend fill of musical goodness Saturday night at Dubland Underground (315 Alexander St., 232-7550). First up is Diamond Youth, with Daylight and Pentimento opening up. Tickets will run you $10, and the rock starts at 5 p.m. After them hip-hop artist/rapper Mammoth will be putting on a CD release show, starting at 9 p.m., entry running $5-$10.

RECREATION: The Great Pumpkin Walk will take place Saturday 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Ontario County Fairgrounds (County Road 10, Canandaigua). Enjoy refreshments and a magical evening stroll along the trail lined with hundreds of artistic Jack-o-Lanterns. The event is free to attend. RECREATION: The Third Annual Rochester Tweed Ride will take place Sunday, meeting at Java's at the Public Market at 10:30 a.m. Don your dapper duds and join the two-hour ride, which returns to Java's for food, games, and prizes. FESTIVAL: The New Moon Psychic Festival & Holistic Healing Expo takes place Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at The Fair & Expo Center (2695 E. Henrietta Road, Henrietta), and will feature more than 60 international readers, healers, and vendors of spiritual & new age items. The cost to attend is $5-$7, or $10 for two-day pass. MUSIC: While some things are naturally hand-in-hands, like jelly and peanut butter, milk and cookies, and tacos and happiness, others might seem at first like a stretch. Spaghetti Opera XIII, presented by the Ontario County Arts Council, will be taking place Saturday night at the Inn on the Lake (770 S. Main St., Canandaigua, theinnonthelake.com, $35). And if you can get a full belly of pasta and fill your ears with opera, maybe you'll agree the two should go together more often.

RECREATION: Learn about the trees in Highland Park (171 Reservoir Ave.) Saturday at 9 a.m., when you join Kent Millham'sHighland Park Tree Tour. Meet in front of the Conservatory, and wear comfortable shoes. The event is free to attend; for info: 244-2900.

MUSIC: Have some talent you want to share with the Rochester community at large? Or just love going out to talent shows and seeing what everyone else has to offer? Either way, you should head down to Why Not: A Talent Show, Saturday night at Bernunzio's Uptown Music (122 East Ave., bernunzio.com) at 6:30 p.m. It's only $5 to get in or to register as a talent, and there's also a raffle with a whole bunch of cool things you can win, with all proceeds benefiting Mutual Aid.
