Daily Choices: What to do on Thursday, May 9 

Special Event: Rochester Academy of Medicine (1441 East Ave.) will host a Mother/Daughter Spa Night tonight, 6-8 p.m., in efforts to raise money and support for the students of Young Women's College Prep Charter School. There will be a raffle of Babo Botanicals worth $150 and products handed out throughout the evening. Tickets are $50 per mother/daughter pair and $65 at the door. Purchase tickets at or at the door. Music: Tonight has been donned “Music Educators’ Night at the RPO,” and you can start the night with the NEXUS/RPO concert at 7:30 p.m. (tickets $10-$22), with Peter Bay conducting. During intermission the 25th Annual RPO Musicians’ Awards for Outstanding Music Educators will be presented to Chandra L. Downs, Jeremy Rath, Kenneth Foster, Beth A. Remming, and Rebecca Root Davis.

Dance: Check out Geomatics Dance Theatre ensemble's new work, "Your Life is Not Your Own," tonight at Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Center (540 E. Main St.). The troupe will be joined by nine guest dancers from the SUNY Brockport Department of Dance and dancers from School of the Arts, as well as the quirky characters Quentin Corks, Shuffling Bags, Joy Jump Lightness, Cutouts Lady, Newton Newsby, and Frank the Flasher. The show will be accompanied by live singing by the Rochester Women's Community Chorus and original music by composer Eric Zabriskie. The performance is at 7:30 p.m., and the show continues through May 12. Tickets are $20 general admission, with discounts available for seniors age 60+ and for full-time students. Music: Gospel artist Myra Brown will be performing at 1872 Café (431 W. Main St., tonight, starting at 6:30 p.m. Music is free.

Recreation: Take a guided Twilight Tour of the lovely Mount Hope Cemetery (791 Mt. Hope Ave.) tonight at 7 p.m., and learn a bit of trivia about who's resting there. Music: I’ve always been a sucker for the fiddle, and tonight Rochester is in for some bowing with fiddler Laura Cortese playing at Lovin Cup (300 Park Point Dr., Music starts at 9 p.m., tickets cost $10.
