Tonight at Heat Night Club (336 East Ave., 899-0620) is a special Freaks & Geeks inspired party, with DJ Ease spinning the music. And for you younger geeks, don't feel left out, as Heat is 18+. Of course, costumes are highly, highly encouraged, or you could just wear that excuse of a pencil-protecting outfit you normally do. MUSIC: Want to spend tonight enjoying some great Irish-inspired music? Crossmolina, named for a town in County Mayo, Ireland, will be playing a free show tonight at McGraw's (146 W. Commercial St., East Rochester, mcgrawsirishpub.com), bringing the fiddle sounds you crave right here to Rochester.
THEATER: Catch the 8 p.m. staging of "Pomme is French for Apple," a humorous West Indian look at the complexities of womanhood, tonight at Downstairs Cabaret (3450 Winton Place). Tickets are $25, and the show runs through October 20. For more info, call 325-4370, or visit downstairscabaret.com.
MUSIC: For those of you who view the electric bass as either a support instrument in the rhythm section, or as a solo weapon wielded by cats like Wooten and Clarke, here's a third category for ya: singer/songwriter/bass monster...or in other words, Seth Horan. This Buffalo bassist doesn't so much accompany himself but rather sings along with the bass in a kind of two-part harmony. The dynamics are awesome as he leaves the octaves between his voice and instrument open for their co-mingling coolness. Check it tonight at Lovin Cup (300 Park Point Dr., lovincup.com) at 8 p.m., cover only $3.
LECTURE: The Rochester School for the Deaf (1545 St. Paul St.) will host the 20th Annual Adventures in Education lecture tonight, 5-8:30 p.m. The 7 p.m. presentation, "Around the World in 80 Ways," featuring Julie and Colin Angus (the first woman to row across the Atlantic and first man to circumnavigate the earth solely on human power) will follow a welcoming reception. MUSIC: Looking for a fancy meal out and some good old R&B music while you're at it? Why not head down to Pane Vino (175 North Water St., panevinoristorante.com) tonight and check out local group The Coupe de Villes. Music is free (well, after you purchase your meal, that is), and starts at 8:30 p.m., so get out and have a good time.
