Daily Choices: What to do on Thursday, October 4 

SPECIAL EVENT: The Food Truck Rodeo takes place tonight, 5-9 p.m., at the Public Market (280 N. Union St.), and will feature your favorites, including La Petit Poutine, Cheesed & Confused,  as well as two beer gardens and musical entertainment by Friends Unplugged. MUSIC: Tonight the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, 60 Gibbs St., rpo.org) opens its 90th season with a program of music from its first season, including Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 1 (the "Nordic" symphony). Hanson (1896-1981) was an American composer, conductor, and music educator, who was the director of the Eastman School of Music from 1924 to 1964. This is conductor ArildRemmereit's second season with the RPO. Head on down at 7:30 p.m., tickets $15-$82. Note: the program repeats Saturday at 8 p.m.

SPECIAL EVENT: Welcome back star of "RuPaul's Drag Race," Rochester's own Pandora Boxx tonight - she's the special guest at the Tilt-a-Whirl Drag Show held at Tilt Nightclub & Ultralounge (444 Central Ave.). Ms. Boxx's performance is at 11:30 p.m. Admission is $5 or $15 (ages 18-20); for more information, call 232-8440.

MUSIC: From the late 1960's through the mid-1970's trumpet and flugelhorn player extraordinaire Tom Harrell made his name in the bands of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, and Horace Silver. Over the next decade he enhanced his reputation with Lee Konitz, George Russell, Phil Woods, and others. From the mid-1980's on Harrell has recorded over two dozen albums as a leader. His latest, "Number Five," finds him as fresh and inventive as ever. You can check him out yourself tonight at Hochstein School of Music (50 Plymouth Ave., exodustojazz.com) at 8 p.m., ticket $25-$42.

FILM: It's October! Get in the creeped-out mood with Dryden Theatre's Halloween film series. Grab someone to huddle with and catch "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," about humanity being replaced by alien impostors, at 8 p.m. tonight at the theatre (Eastman House, 900 East Ave.). MUSIC: There's nothing fake about getting out and enjoying some good music and food courtesy of the great traditions of New Orleans. THEATER: Geva Theatre (75 Woodbury Blvd.) will host a staged reading of "A Slight Ache" today, 12:15-1 p.m., as part of its Lunch Hour Play Reading Series. In the Harold Pinter play, a couple confronts a traveling salesman to find out why he's been standing at their gate every day for two months. Tickets are $8, or $15 with a box lunch. MUSIC: Looking for something you really want to jump up, shout about, and combat? How about Corduroy? Coming to us from none other than good old Kalamazoo, Mississippi, the rock group will be playing tonight at Tala Vera (155 State St., tala-vera.com) tonight at 8 p.m., and the show will only cost you $5. Comedown will be opening up...so make sure you come down to check them both out.
