Daily Choices: What to do on Tuesday, April 9

Film: You’ve heard about hunger in third world countries and places far, far away from the comforts of your home, but what about the 49 million people in America who go hungry every day? Learn about this overlooked issue with “A Place at the Table,” a documentary playing at the Little Theatre (240 East Ave.) at 7 p.m. The film, directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, will screen as part of the Little’s monthly One Take: Stories Through the Lens documentary series. Tickets are $10. See showtimes and more special screenings at thelittle.org.

Music: Is the band ever as good as the book? Find out for yourself when The Giving Tree Band, a rock outfit in the style of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and the Grateful Dead, performs at Abilene Bar and Lounge (153 Liberty Pole Way, abilenebarandlounge.com) at 9 p.m. Cover charge is $5 for 21 and over and $8 for under 21.

Special Event: Would you like some foreign coffee with your local ingredients? Joe Bean Coffee Roasters and The Owl House are collaborating on two coffee pairing dinners, which will be held at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at The Owl House (75 Marshall St., owlhouserochester.com). The four-course menu will include seared scallops, pork loin, French apple tart, and several vegetarian options, complemented with coffees from Ethiopia, Nicaragua, Peru, and Rwanda. Each dinner costs $35. Tickets can be purchased at The Owl House or by calling 360-2920.

Music: You would think that a local band with the name Sexy Teenagers would be headlining TeenSet Tuesday at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com). Instead, it’s only one of two opening bands – the other being fellow Rochesterians The Mighty High and Dry – for headliner Waylon Speed, coming to us from Burlington, VT. Doors open at 8 p.m., music starts at 9 p.m., and the concert will be followed by a 45 Dance Party at midnight. Cover is $6 for 21 and over and $8 for under 21.
