Literature: Visit the Welles-Brown Room of the Rush Rhees Library (University of Rochester, River Campus) 1-4 p.m. today for a unique event that will offer visitors the opportunity to connect with many people from different backgrounds. The event is called "The Human Library," at which visitors can "borrow" a Human Book (a volunteer willing to share stories with others) for 30 minutes, for one-on-one or small-group conversations. Music: Ska is supposed to be about happy-sunny times, but Reel Big Fish decided to take a different track in its most recent album, “Candy Coated Fury.” It’s supposed to be funny, but even the band admits that it’s some spiteful stuff. It’s still insanely danceable, and I have no doubt “Everyone Else Is an A**hole” is going to be in the background of like every commercial ever soon enough. However, I found the disc a bit jarring. There is certain to be a mix of the old tunes as well as the new at this show. If you like to get your ska on there is no doubt this is where you need to be, pretending it’s not always cloudy in Rochester. Lecture: The Tuesday Topics series held at Kate Gleason Auditorium at Central Library (115 South Ave.) continues today with a presentation by Dr. Ian Wilson, co-founder of Synthesis Collaborative and curator of the ongoing street art endeavor, Wall\Therapy. Music: The Kilbourn Concert series tonight presents Brooklyn Rider, a named-for-its-location string quartet that will be performing at Kilbourn Hall (26 Gibbs St., esm.rochester.edu) at 8 p.m. Tickets run $10-$20, or $38-$65 as part of the subscription series.
