Daily Choices: What to do on Tuesday, March 12 

Film: Have you been hoping for a global-warming film that's a little more insightful than a disaster blockbuster like "The Day After Tomorrow," but also a little more exciting than a PowerPoint presentation by Al Gore? Then "Chasing Ice" might be the cinematic event for you. The documentary follows National Geographic photographer James Balog and his innovative use of time-lapse cameras to chronicle the changes of the world's glaciers over the last few years. It screens at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Little Theatre (240 East Ave.) as part of the monthly One Take: Stories through the Lens documentary series. Music: If you didn't get enough metal at Monday's mini-metal fest at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave.), then head back there tonight for even more headbanging, soul-darkening sounds, with five Western New York metal bands coming together for one pulverizing evening. Local death-metal outfit Malformed headlines a set that also features Rochester's Desekrator, Oswego's Cosmic Sea, and the Buffalo bands Theatre Nocturne and Enthaptung. Leave your colorful clothing at home, and be ready to thrash. Doors open at 8 p.m., music starts at 8:30. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $8 for under 21. Art: Cheryl Amati Martin is a local photographer - with two generations of family work history at Kodak - who captures impromptu portraits of individuals that she meets and interacts with on the streets. You can check out her latest collection of portraits, "Life and Times," which continues through April 13 at the Community Darkroom gallery in the Genesee Center for the Arts and Education (713 Monroe Ave.). The exhibit is free. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Film: Can't wait for the ImageOut festival in October? Treat yourself to a mini-LGBT film fest at Out of the Archive, a film screening co-sponsored by ImageOut at the Visual Studies Workshop (31 Prince St.). The event features 16mm screenings of five LGBT-themed short films from the 60's and 70's: "Who Happen to be Gay," "A Woman's Place Is in the House: A Portrait of Elaine Noble," "KustomKarKommandos," "Lavender," and "Magic Beauty Kit." Lecture: Henry Brewster Stanton and his wife, Elizabeth Cady, were one pretty awesome couple. He was an abolitionist who traveled around the country to fight for the end of slavery; she was an abolitionist too, and also presented her own Declaration of Sentiments in Seneca Falls at the first-ever women's rights convention in 1848. Kinda makes you feel guilty about all those couple's nights you've spent just sitting around and browsing Netflix, huh? Learn more about this defiant, determined couple at "The Stantons: The Extraordinary Marriage that Started a Revolution," a lecture by Professor Linda Frank at Finger LakesCommunity College (3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua).
