Daily Choices: What to do on Tuesday, March 19

ART/MUSIC: Abilene Bar & Lounge (153 Liberty Pole Way) will host another in its Artisan Craft and Music Night series tonight, 6 p.m., this time featuring Jeff Sherner. Local artists will be display and sell their works both upstairs and down, and there will be drink specials and BBQ. Admission is free. For more info, call 232-3230 or visit abilenebarandlounge.com.

LECTURE/WORKSHOP: The Mineral Section of the Rochester Academy of Science will hold a lecture and workshop on "Photostacking of Mineral Samples to Increase the Depth of Focus" with Van King tonight, 7-9 p.m., at Brighton Town Hall (2300 Elmwood Ave.). The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, call 288-5683 or visit rasny.org.

MUSIC: Sing and the world sings with you (or at least ignores your pitch issues). Tonight head out to the Golden Link Folk Singing Society's weekly Tuesday-night sing-around held 7:30-10 p.m. at 12 Corners Presbyterian Church (1200 S. Winton Road). It's totally free and you can sing or play a tune, request a tune, or pass to the more musically inclined around you. For details check goldenlink.org.

ART/LECTURE: Painter Steve Carpenter and his ethereal-figurative works, "Surfaces," will be the focus of this month's Featured Artist Program, held tonight at 6 p.m. at Steve Carpenter Gallery & Art Center (175 Anderson Ave.). Admission is free to New York Figure Study Guild members, and a $5 donation is requested of others. For more info, call 758-1410 or visit stevecarpenterstudio.com.

MUSIC: The beginning of the work week has been a real drag. Get your frustration out by screaming through some Guns N Roses with Karaoke with DJ Blake tonight at 140 Alex Bar & Grill (140 Alexander St.) Or you can go with Mary J. Blige, some Dixie Chicks - whatever you find cathartic. The tunes start at 10 p.m. Hit 140alex.com for info.

Music: Whereas Baltimore’s All Time Low has been known to unabashedly wear its collective influences on its collective sleeve, its latest record, “Don’t Panic,” has smoothed out the seams of all the band’s Frankensteined influences. Instead it arrives at its own jagged take on pop-infused punk.
