Daily Choices: What to do on Tuesday, October 23

Doors open up at 6 p.m. so get there early; tickets run $10, unless you want to scrape out for the $25 VIP package. Not sure what it includes, but maybe you’ll get a little bit closer to that mile-high hair of his.

LITERATURE: Learn about the lives of "The Astaires: Fred and Adele," when the book by Kathleen Riley is reviewed in today’s edition of the Central Library’s Books Sandwiched In programming. The free event takes place in the Kate Gleason Auditorium of the library (115 South Ave.), 12:12-12:52 p.m. Bring a lunch if you’d like. More info: 428-8350, libraryweb.org.

THEATER: Just you try and sit still tonight at “In the Mood: 1940’s Big Band, Swing Dance Musical Revue,” held at the Auditorium Theatre (885 Main St.). Performances take place 3 & 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $29.50-$69.50. For more information, visit rbtl.org, or ticketmaster.com.

ART: Check out "Imitating Life," featuring paintings by Tyrus Clutter and Sarah Morgan, at Davison Gallery (Cultural Life Center, Roberts Wesleyan College, 2301 Westside Drive). The exhibit is open today 1-4 p.m., and continues through November 2. Admission is free. For more information, call 594-6442.

MUSIC: A packed night of music awaits at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com, price TBA), with Dr. Hamburger presenting New York City’s Eskimeaux, Minneapolis’s Hollow Boys, and two of Rochester’s own: Seth Faergolzia doing a solo set, and The Pickpockets. Last but not least, DJ Dr. Hamburger will be premiering his Trap/Future Bass Set after the bands, so make sure to stick around for the whole affair. Music starts at 9 p.m.

ART: Support the local scene; attend Artisan Craft and Music Night with The Skillet Lickers and a horde of handcrafters tonight, 6-10 p.m., at Abilene Bar & Lounge (153 Liberty Pole Way). Admission is free. For more info, call 232-3230, or visit abilenebarandlounge.com.

MUSIC: Head on down to Boulder (100 Alexander St, bouldercoffeeco.com) if you want a chance to check out Chicago-based folk songstressAbbiRajasekhar. Concert begins at 8 p.m. and is free, so grab some local coffee and enjoy some acoustic music.
