Daily Choices: What to do on Wednesday, April 24

Spesh: Join Rochester Winos for a Wine and Food Pairing event tonight, 6:30 p.m., at Banzai Sushi and Cocktail (682 South Ave.). Tickets are $30-$35; to register visit rochesterwinos.com.

Music: It ain’t over until the fat lady sings, and it’s going to take her over a week to stop her tune this time around. The Rochester Lyric Opera’s Chamber Opera Festival kicks off tonight with the Jonathan B. Angelone High School Voice Competition Winner’s Recital at the Baptist Temple (1101 Clover St., $10), and runs through May 5 with a variety of programming. If tonight isn’t enough, you can check out rochesterlyricopera.org for the rest of the schedule.

Art: Check out "Worlds Apart: Ethiopia and Elsewhere," the new photo show at Image City Photography Gallery (722 University Ave.). The exhibit is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, and continues through May 12. Admission is free. For more information, visit imagecityphotographygallery.com.

Music: Does the bottle really change the flavor? Find out for yourself tonight at Old Wine, New Bottles: Arranging 101 featuring The Rod Blumenau Quartet and Doug Stone at the Ingle Auditorium at RIT (One Lomb Memorial Drive, rit.edu). The bands will take you through jazz arrangements of audience requested music. I suggest throwing some curve balls (The world needs a jazz “Gangnam Style” doesn't it?). Tickets run $5-$20.

Lecture: Today's lecture in the Science on the Edge series is "Crocodiles at the Poles: Viewing the Past and Future Ice-free Arctic," presented by Jeff Wyatt at 7:30 p.m. The event takes place at Rochester Museum and Science Center (657 East Ave.) and costs $8-$14 to attend. For more info, call 697-1942 or visit rmsc.org.

Music: The weather is warming up, and the Pelican’s Nest (556 River St., pelicansnestrestaurant.com) is open! Head on down to check out its Ladies at the Lake Jeans vs. Leggings party tonight, featuring DJ Zio. Ladies are free before 11 p.m., there will be drink specials (for those of you old enough), and $500 in cash prizes. Quite a lot for the $5 cover. Check it.

Workshop: Take a Worm Composting and Lasagna Gardening workshop tonight, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County (420 East Main St., Batavia). The class is $10 to attend; register and get more info by calling 343-3040 x101 or visiting genesee.shutterfly.com/gardening.
