Don't be surprised to think Johnny and June when you listen to country-folk duo Brennen Leigh and Noel McKay. The pair manages to summon the sounds of older country with keeping a more modern subject matter — and it's not the typical "my wife left me, my dog died" subject matter you'd hear in a lot of country. There's also a welcome sense of humor in the songs — "Does your coat still sound like a morocco when you're walking up and down around the Tennessee hills?" from "Are You Still Takin' Them Pills?" If you can get down with acoustic guitars and harmonies, check these two out.
