Ben Lewis, I wouldn't dispute that one bit. Be that as it may, this is an article in a liberal publication about a democratic race in a one-party democratic city. A Plague on Both Their Houses...but we're in the dems house here.
Animule, considering that the local democrats supported an unabashed Trump supporter who belongs to a known alt-right group for sheriff, why would it surprise you that an "operations coordinator for Land Rover" with no political pedigree would be a reasonable candidate? The first rule of dem club is we don't talk about dem club...or qualifications.
I know we've seen these many times in the last days, but they are so important. It's hard to imagine McCain as a racist after watching these clips and knowing that some of his fellow POWs were men of color. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIjenjANqA…
And yes...if the Fringe Festival invites William Shatner to sing ANY cover song it would do well to cancel the whole thing!
Sorry, white people singing "Negro Spirituals" is just wrong. I belonged to a "white" church (churches remaining one of our most segregated places), where the choir in their misguided efforts to become "woke" started performing the "Negro Spirituals" found in the hymnal. To complete the picture and "intersectionality" they included swaying bodies and upraised hands to add to the color of the moment. It was as if someone had placed a chalkboard in the sanctuary and run their fingernails down it...simply cringeworthy. White people...stop it, you look foolish. Cultural appropriation at its worst. Please, if white people want to be liberal sing some Woody Guthrie union songs.
I guess one could look to accomplishments. What is Romero's legacy at MCDC to this point in her years there. It's still a mess, more divided than ever and her signature accomplishment was getting a die hard Trump supporter who belongs to an alt-right group elected to Sheriff. A democrat who refuses to help advocate for a progressive platform. A visit to democratic headquarters speaks volumes as to the mess the local democrats are in. There is no sense of coordination, planning, helping candidates outside the inside gang, and certainly no innovation or progress. So, the question is, in a test of skills the condition of the local party will give you an idea of her capabilities. For Richard one could look at the strength and success of the local NOW organization. Night and day, but machines are hard to beat. Romeo will likely win, the dems may give you a choice, but they hardly give you a say.
Re: “Third Dem wants Spaull's Council seat”
Louise, of course if we were as enlightened as Canada there would be no party affiliations at the local level. Candidates would have to run on merit, not party affiliation. I'd suggest village, town and city councils have ballots with no party affiliation attached...but which party would agree to that? Aside from the Greens? :)
